al jazeera meteorologist kevin corriveau is tracking the weather. what is next? >> joie, we have a lot to talk about. a very similar situation what we're going to be seeing with the winter storm. today we'll see storm but i think it's going to be more of an ice situation for this area. and we're talking about ice. that means we're going to be seeing a lot more power lines down across the region. we mentioned atlanta just before, it's not just atlanta, but into the carolinas that this storm will be pumping in, especially around the gulf coast and freezing across mississippi as well as alabama. you can see all the warnings extending from the carolinas all the way back towards texas so it's not just georgia. of course that's the big city that had the big failure but these other areas especially on the highways that it's going to be treacherous. on tuesday, it's we're talking about rain, freezing rain and sleet towards arkansas and the temperatures are coming down, atlanta 27°, birmingham is going to be 32, that is the morning we're going to be seeing the biggest pro

kevin corriveau warned us it would be bad and joins us with an update. >> there's good news. in washington d.c. we are seeing the snow and right on the edge baltimore, philly dealing with the snow and freezing precipitation. in new york we had a switchover. earlier, last summer i was talking to you, it was heavy rain. now we are looking at the rain go through. now we are dealing with a mix of sleet and freezing precipitation forming here. now, what is going to happen is over of the next couple of of hours we'll deal with that, and also into new jersey. see the wrap around snow right here. that will come in around midnight to 1am across this area. temperatures dropping to about 30 degrees. some places have seen - oakland maryland saw 23. in west virginia, they had 27 inches, we are not quite done. in places that are further away from the coast. these numbers will go up, especially the ones in connecticut. as i said, 30 degrees tomorrow will be the low. we won't see a bunch of snow on the ground. we'll see windy conditions, snow, dropping visibility. if you drive tomorrow, it c

al jazeera meteorologist kevin corriveau has more on the wicked weather. >> a lot of people have been experiencing a lot of problems especially in tornadoes. we're talking about illinois, indiana as well as down here across parts of the mississippi river valley but up to the north it has been this snow. on the back side of this area of low pressure we have seen quite a bit of snow and some locations dumping about one inch per hour. we're talking minnesota, wisconsin into iowa. next couple of days that is going to clear out. what is in front of it is some very cool temperatures. dropping down on monday to 5°. minus 11, doesn't include what the wind chill will make it feel like. over to seattle a lot of the rain is dissipating, that's going ocontinue on friday. we expect to see about 45° as we go to the end of the weekend. we may unfortunately see a little rain, snow potential on saturday. things are going to look a lot nicer through next week. clouds off the pacific, not really seeing any snow in the higher elevations, but beautifully warm day to los angeles, 80° there. overnight lows

meteorologist or kevin corriveau has the details. >> a lot of people are getting snow of this winter. this is the latest dumping of snow. we are seeing a lot of weather, anywhere from nebraska to now parts of new york as well as pennsylvania. first of all, let's finish off the storm as it makes its way to the mid west. still a big problem. snow across the ohio valley. freezing precipitation around kentucky. across the north-west it has begun. there's a few showers making their way in. we'll see it across most of the metro areas along the coastal renalingans. fires snow and -- regions, first snow, precip saying making the commute tricky along the i-95 corridor. there's a few snow showers. temperatures have low for this time of year. we are talking about seattle, a high of 32 degrees. we are not going to get better than that over the next couple of days with snow and rain by the time we get to the wnd. >> towards the south-west in california there's a change in the forecast. the drought situation has been bad. the rig of high pressure is breaking down. we think we'll see rain and shower

kevin corriveau looks at the weather. >> here in new york we had an inch and a half to 2 inches.owards main it was 13 inches of snow there. as we go towards tomorrow. we'll get a little more snow across the north. here across the coast ol regions, it will be rain, and it will drop the snow across the here. the rain there. 44 on friday, 54 - don't get used to the warm temperatures. as we go to next week it will go back down to the 30, and the freezing weather. across the north-west it is the rain and snow causing a problem, a combination of flooding and avalanche warnings into the higher elevations. wednesday looks as it did on tuesday. temperatures in seattle will be about 46 degrees. we expect light rain on wednesday. heavy i don't remember on thursday. hopefully by the weekend things will clear out and we'll get more sun in the forecast. down towards california, more cloud coming into play across los angeles. could be a cloudy day for you. 72 there, and we expect the temperatures to rise by the time we get to the weekend. how about 82 degrees on friday, dropping down to 79 as w

. >> the vortex is back again, kevin corriveau looks at the forecast. >> well, some of the coldest temperatures in the 50 states will be seen in north dakota in the next couple of days. >> we are looking at the next polar vortex. we are not concerned about the accumulation. what we see in minneapolis is temperatures will dive down, lows going to minus 20. when you figure in the wind chills, it will be a variable factor. we think we'll see down to minus 35 degrees. things do not get better until we get towards next week. towards the north-west we have heavy rain charts, a problem in the next 24 hours. the temperature coming up to 53 degrees. we'll see a break in the rain and temperatures staying nice. seasonally average, and down to about high 30s as the overnight low. we have good news for parts of california. we'll see rain, probably coming into play here as we go towards wednesday, as well as into friday. this rain will descend to california. >> the temperatures will be lower than average, 70 degrees towards tuesday. we see the temperatures coming down. wednesday, friday as well we go towards

meteorologist kevin corriveau tracking the next big storm. >> we are seeing a lot of stormy weather push to the atlantic as we go into tuesday. the storm bringing between 6 inches to over 12 inches of snow out to pennsylvania. you can see as it made its way through it caused a lot of problems, delays as well as cancellations. as we go to the north-west we are dealing with temperatures below normal for this time of year. you can see a little snow and rain across washington, as well as into oregon, as we go towards tuesday, most of the snow will be out here towards wyoming in the higher elevation. temperatures highs of 36. you are only going to get up to 14 degrees there. notice the temperatures getting down below freezing every night. and by the time we get to the end of the week it will be rain in your forecast. >> to the south-west we saw snow pushing through parts of arizona, in the higher elevations, with phoenix seeing a high of 62. as we go towards tewassaul. san francisco 55, and the weather for los angeles. you will not see 70. all the way through it will be to the '60s. into the

let's bring in kevin corriveau. kevin. >> well, john, situations have improved in terms of snow and freezing rain. eastern new york and new england are seeing the snow, that's going to end in about the next six hours. what we do expect to see is those temperatures beginning to drop over the next several hours. right now, we're going to be seeing temperatures dropping tall way down to 22° -- all the way down to 22°. they need to get the roads cleared and then focus on the side roads. that could be still fairly dangerous by tomorrow morning. philadelphia is expecting 23. the areas without power they are expecting to go all the way into the mid teens for that location. so it's going to be fairly cold. the snow, the slush, is not going away any time soon. now why are we locked into this situation? it has to do with the atmosphere. right now we're looking at a trough along the east coast. that louse the rain to come down, storms to form, and this situation several weeks, since 2013, also what that means is we have a ridge

kevin corriveau has a look now with what southern california can expect. kevin. >> as you mentioned tony two storms. this is the one we saw came through yesterday. we got another one coming. this is the one we are really ce concerned about, in the pacific, making its way towards california. i want you to know what they're experiencing now, they are getting a break thursday from the rain. the old system has pushed up and dissipated. the other system is coming through. let me go a little further in, this is what we're expecting in terms of hazards. you can see riverside, we are hocking at flash flood warnings -- looking at flash flood warnings, glendora, one of the cities tony mentioned concerning the landslides and mudslides. a lot of the pre sipp that is going to hit, that's where we -- ir vieb ip, san diego, all the way up to santa barbara, this whole area. in terms of the amount of rain, where you see these little yellow dots, six to eight inches of rain. just to the north of los angeles down here just to the north of parts of san diego and then also in t

kevin corriveau is tracking this storm and the others expected this week. vin. >> that's right richelle, we are getting no break in the winter weather. rebecca stevenson took this up towards central park. that was amazing to look at. that and the snow shower activity is now on its way out. we still have activity near rhode island and massachusetts. pennsylvania saw over a foot of snow, towards new jersey it was 9.3, here in central park it was about 6 inches of snow. we may get up to about 6.1 as the snow had ended. the temperatures are going to be coming down overnight. 30 degrees right now. it's a little bit slushy outside because the temperature is just barely below freezing. i want to take you to the coastal region right there. we're going to be seeing the rain and the snow mix right there. ooze -- as we go towards wednesday it will be a mix of rain and snow, but down here towards parts of new jersey as well as most of new york and long island, it is probably going to be rain towards the end of the afternoon. we'll bring you more a little bit later in th

kevin corriveau is tracking this. >> well tony, not just several inches of snow. some locations have seen over 12 inches of snow. >> what? >> yes, definitely. it's been a very impressive day. so let's take a look what's happening. you can see the snow is just about to end across new york, pennsylvania, new jersey, also towards south. still more snow across new england but expect it to stop about 10:00 this evening. pennsylvania in some locations, 12.5, west virginia, 12, here in central park it is just about over with. we saw six inches actually walking to work. it was the most beautiful scene i have ever seen. beautiful central park right now. temperatures are 31°. they are going to come down slightly. not very much over the overnight hours, down to 27 as we go towards about midnight and then as we go towards tomorrow we are going to be seeing a little bit more in terms of clearer skies. so 22, 24° then coming back up by the time we get omore. so we are going to be seeing a lot of melting going on. it's going to be fairly clear over the next day through monday an

kevin corriveau is keeping an eye. >> that's right, richelle, like you said the drought last been incredible, one of the worst we've seen. the problems we are facing, the rain is coming down very hard over the next couple of days. the ground is not able to saturate. mudslides, landslides could be a problem. but we're expecting between five and eight inches of rain in the northern part of california, and oregon. that is more rain than they have seen in the last eight months. it is going to put a little bit of a dent in the drownt drought, it's also very good for the snow pack because if you increase the snow pack then you're guaranteeing some water as we go towards the springtime. down towards southern california though it's a little bit of a different story. we're not really getting that much rain here. it's going oget much better from the bay area and up but for southern california it could still be an issue. this is going to be go on by sunday, monday, this ridge of high pressure keeping much of the area dry is going to come back in the place, we have a little bit of danger associated with

doesn't look like this kind of severe weather is going to let up they time soon, kevin corriveau is tracking this. miserable all over again kevin. >> it is joie, i'm getting very tired of it myself. the storm is beginning to make its way towards the northeast. as you can see, the storm was a very, very large, we were talking about 1300 miles basically from nebraska all the way over here towards parts of new england. for parts of new york, misty conditions, boston as well as into maine, northern new hampshire new hampshire is getting it as well. we've had a lot of snow on the ground, that occurred all day. those are snow advisories, new york bainbridge, 15 inches, massachusetts, 12.2, boston had eight, here in central park we had four and that's on top of the six inches we saw just two days ago. the road crews have been very good getting the main roads cleared. and what we're going to see though unfortunately is those temperatures are going to be diving down through the evening. right now, in new york, we're 33°, boston's at 26. so we've had a little bit of melting going on across the region

kevin corriveau is here to get us started. kevin. >> yes, john, things are going to get worse. computer models run every six hours, they crunch the data in the atmosphere. and what we're seeing is yes, it's going to be much worse than it was six years ago. the amount of snow across the areas as well as the ice that's going to be a big problem. first of all this is what you were talking about, the winter warnings, the advisories in effect, you can see how many states are affected by this winter storm here. tonight we're going osee the ice -- to see the ice over here but that's not going to be the worst of it. georgia to the carolinas, we're expecting to see an inch and a quarter to an inch and a half of freezing rain across the region. what that does to tree pramps bs and power lines, i'm expecting that we're going to be seeing possibly 400 to 500,000 people going without power and 12 to 14 inches of snow. not just georgia but up the east coast. we'll keep you advised over the next couple of hours. >> and kevin will be following. joining us on the telephone, is buzz weiss. tell

kevin corriveau is tracking the extreme weather and has more. >> you want to look at the picture. it's an impressive storm off the coast of california. it's the southern part of california that will be affected. we are only hours away from seeing the rain making its way towards los angeles, as well as all the way to mexico. that is where the problems will be. these are the warnings that are out. most are dealing with flooding - flash flooding, coastal flooding. wait until you see the pink. we are talking about a winter storm warning. in that area we have things developing. because the moisture is coming in from the south, it will hit the mountains, dropping across the cannians and the valleys, that is why they are concerned about the anmerain. this is the area burnt. we expect to see 15-20, 24 inches. across the southern areas, 6-8 inches of rain. as we go towards sunday, that's the total accumulation. here in the mountains we are looking at 20 to 24. >> coming up, showing solidarity. >> when you are contained in horrible conditions as they have been, the only people you can talk

kevin corriveau is here with the weather and whether any relief is on the front. >> laying down astroturf in new subdivisions or new apartment homes because the drought situation is not expected to be relieved any time soon in their foreseeable future. we did get rain earlier in the week, it is not enough to end the drought. the snow pack we are only at about 15 to 20% of where we should be this year. and of course the snow pack in the sierra nevadas is what we need for drinking water as well. how did we get to this situation? since 2012 we have had this ridge of high pressure located here on the western seaboard. what it has done is kept things sunny but very, very dry. what we have seen over the last several days is we have seen a break here. that's why we have got the rain. the trough is out here, towards parts of the pacific. what is happening here is this ridge is beginning to shift back towards the west coast. and i think on the 7th or 8th of february this ridge will be right back over parts of california and we'll be back to the same situation we were last week. john. >> kevin, tha

kevin corriveau is here with the latest. >> that's right, john. storm -- you can see the last 12 hours of its history, is really beginning to organize. look at the line. it has moved through parts of illinois, which is good. so what we're really concerned about is what is happening towards parts of indianapolis. also over here towards nashville. within the next hour that line will also push through. and gulf port as well as over to mobile we'll see tornadic activity. the red are tornado watches in effect right now. within those are tornado warnings, and most are to the east of that line. and that will continue all night long. we have people without power in parts of illinois because of the winds and attorneys. we also have flooding happening in if parts of ohio. we're also dealing with the winter part of this storm in iowa, wisconsin, this is a true blizzard. visibility is down to about 9 on the highways. this storm is going to go through, i'll tell you more about what is going to happen on the eastern seaboard later in the show. >> kevin thank yo

kevin core corriveau is here. >> john, folsom lake 20 miles to the northeast of sacramento. take a look at these before and after pictures. this is a reservoir and you ask see some of the boats here, this is a couple of years ago what it used to look like. and now, 77 feet below what there were, all the boats still pretty much at the bottom of the reservoir. here is another picture of a marina, and the climate prediction center puts out these three month forecast for temperature as well as precipitation. unfortunately this is what they're saying for the next three months. this dark brown area indicating about 40% below average of rain. the little brown area above it says 30, of course. we have been having a lot of rain up here towards the north so we think that part of the drought situation is going to start to have a fairly big dent taken out of it but unfortunately from anywhere from san francisco down to the south it's still going to be a major problem here. and as you saw there is no rain in the forecast. conditions out here are dry. we're looking at temperatures into th
