and for that we turn to meteorologist kevin corriveau. >> good morning. unfortunately the fire situation is probably going to get worse. it's a bad situation. let's look at what is happening in the south-west. we have been seeing dry air. last week though at the beginning, we were dealing with a lot of rain. we are looking at these wildfires burping to the south-east of the los angeles. we do expect that to get bigger over the next couple of days. the reason being the temperatures are going up. >> we are talking about early morning temperatures. los angeles is about 80 degrees, 70 degrees, palm springs about 88 degrees, and the relative humidity is high on the coast. talking about 78%. what will happen is today, as the temperatures go up, the relative humidity is going to go down. we do have heat watches and warnings in effect. fake a look at the temperatures we are expecting to see in los angeles. normally this time of year, it's about 84 degrees. 95 on saturday, 98 expected on sunday. this is why the fire danger is going to go back up. >> thank you so m

and meteorologist kevin corriveau is more on that, kevin. >> that's right john it actually ties hurricane olivia in 1967. that is how long it's been since a hurricane of this magnitude hit baja california. as it was making landfall on cabo san lucas, 125 mile-per-hour sustained winds as a category 3 storm when it hit landfall here. many thousands of people in shelters, a lot of tourists in shelters as well. the storm is predicted to bring about 20 more inches of rain to baja california. the other big problem with this storm is going to be as it makes its way to the north. but last week if you remember we were dealing with hurricane norbert. norbert brought with it a record amount of rain for phoenix, arizona a little more than five and a quarter inches of rain. a tropical storm is going to be making its way to the north and northeast as otropical depression. we still think we're going to be seeing incredible amount of rain with this storm as well. rain into parts of arizona. we'll be watching this very carefully in the next two or three days. across this area still five to eight inches of

meteorologist kevin corriveau is here with that. kevin. >> this rainfall through phoenix was historical. let me put it in perspective, they received today 41% of what they would receive in a whole year and that was just in one day. this is what we're looking at. let me go a little bit closer in. notice this cluster right there. take a look at the video that came in this morning before sunrise as most of the rain fell within a 12 hour period. we're talking in some places over five to six inches of rain fell in a very short amount of time. of course this is dessert and the -- desert and the rainwater does not really drain very well in this area. come back and i'll show you where the big problem is right now. it's up here into las vegas as well as in california. we have the same problem in las vegas with flash flooding as well as palm springs. the warnings are still out. especially the ones in red. those are flash flood warnings. those are still up for nevada, arizona, parts of california, even up here towards utah. we'll be watching th

meteorologist kevin corriveau is here with the latest. n. >> that's right david, last night we were with thunderstorms iowa to nebraska. 90 mile-per-hour winds been through the area, as well as a gas main broke, people had to be evacuated with power out across the region. now what we're looking at is this. take look at the wind damage reports, as well as tornadic activity, missouri, right between kansas city and oklahoma, so that is our biggest threat tonight as well as not only severe weather but we're going obe seeing a lot of flooding going on particularly here in the northeastern part of oklahoma. over the next 24 hours we could be seeing about six inches of rain falling in this area. and of course most of of these thunderstorms are going to continue all the way through evening. so i don't think the tornadic activity is going to be a problem. i do think the rain, the hail as well as the flooding will continue anywhere from illinois make its way towards mississippi river valley over the next couple of hours. back to you. >> all right ke

kevin corriveau is here with the weather. let's check in. we need people to do the wore, the research that people like him do. >> absolutely. it's one of those jobs that i don't think i could do. >> no. people do. >> we have major flooding in the south-west. they do get rain, but when we get rain of this amount we are talking about flash flooding. we'll look at what happens here, in parts of the south-west. take a look at the satellite radar as the thunder storms push through los angeles, and this is what it looks like on the ground. we saw rain. it wasn't an amazing amount, but it was less than an inch of rain, it haed in a short period. in this area, it is so arid that when we talk about rain over an inch, we talk about flooding. that's what we saw, and major power outages roos the region as well. those are moving across arizona, and in utah. the warnings, here in utah, we talked about flash floods. they are the most dangerous. it means it is happening right now. it doesn't exact parts of arizona, as well as down towards southern parts of

. >>> good evening, i'm meteorologist kevin corriveau.week was a very rainy week for most of the southwest. and now we're still dealing with very heavy rain in new mexico and texas. we saw over 5 inches of rain in texas on the border between texas and new mexico. we saw a lot of rain last week when the dem innocence of odile came into this area. we do think, though, the heaviest rain is going to start to edge its way a little bit towards the north. flash flood warnings are still in effect, all along the southern part of new mexico and across parts of texas, and we will be dealing with that tomorrow as well. up towards california we are dealing with the wildfires, and the king fire is the one we're watching the most that is to the west of lake tahoe. you can see right here, the wildfires continue to burn. they had a little bit of relief in terms of rain. when you look at it that way, this is the water vapor shot, and it's showing the very dry air towards the south. we are seeing a little bit of relief towards the north. that's very good fo

. >>> good evening, i'm meteorologist kevin corriveau. we are looking at severe weather making its way across the rocky mountains. it first started off this weekend where we saw quite a bit of flooding across parts of nevada and arizona. if you want what happens this afternoon, look at the line of thunderstorms that has developed in the last sick hours. with these thunderstorms we have seen quite a bit of damage. one tornado over here towards western colorado, but also a lot of flood and wind damage all along this line. it is going to be a very bumpy night. we're going to be seeing a lot of problems in terms of severe weather as well as tornado watches in parts of nebraska across to kansas and oklahoma, all the way down. tomorrow we're going to be seeing the same thing, just a little bit more towards the east. the problem is, this system is moving very slowly as it makes its way over, so the threat tomorrow is going to be here through nebraska, kansas, oklahoma, texas panhandle, and as we go toward wednesday, we're looking at missouri as

kevin corriveau is here with the latest. >> we have two major weather systems side by side. first of all, i'll take you to california, we are looking at showers to the south. that's because of the tropical storm. we are dealing with 11 major wildfires, look at the video. why three of them, the king, courtenay and bowles, it's causing californians. 150 homes have been burnt. this is because of ongoing drught that -- drought that plagued california not just this year, but next year. we'll see a little relief in the tensions. we'll go into thursday, we'll get a little break, it will not last long. we expect the temperatures to some up. we are seeing the rain across arizona, and this is all because of tropical storm o'deal. here are the warnings in place. here is the storm right now. this is what hate, a category 3 storm. we'll see the system making its way across the golf of california into arizona as a tropical depression, and expect to see massive amounts of rain over the next four days. >> thank you. >>> coming up next - a growing chorus of corporate sponsors who disapprove

. >> going evening, i'm meteorologist, kevin corriveau. and you can see the warnings, how extensive they were. in vegas, we looked at flash flood warnings, and this is what it looked like on the ground. 4 inches of rain fell across the county in just two areas, and we saw major problems in the area, it had a difficult time in the region, and we're still looking actually today at flood watches in the area right now. you can see flood advisories as well as flood warnings for parts of las vegas as well. but you can see most of that area has diminished it's warnings as most of the rain is beginning to move more to the west. more to the east. but what we're dealing with this evening, the threat of tornadic activity in parts of iowa. and we have seen 3 inches of rainfall and we have active tornado warnings in parts of northern missouri as well. so we'll be watching this area very carefully. and also, the flood threat extends all the way toward the great lakes. we're going to be seeing much more rain as we go toward wednesday as well as across mu

kevin corriveau is here with more. >> that's right, it would be nice if it was out here towards the west a bit more. it's arizona, and new mexico that are seeing the bankrupt of what is left of tropical storm odile. look at the video. people were filling sandbags to prevent flooding across the region, we are looking at a lot of watches and advisories across that area. now, we do have some areas that have been - the warnings have been dropped - that is it nevada and western arizona. most of the rain, the threat will be through the south-eastern part of arizona, and over here towards southern new mexico. silver city and other areas - we'll watch you over the next 24 hours as the rain makes it way a little over here towards the east. we'll see improvement towards the west. things will clear up. spotty showers by the time we get to friday. as we go towards saturday, most of the rain will be isolated and we are going to be getting out of that situation. the other storm down towards mexico, we don't think it will be a problem for the sworn part of the united states. >>> thank you. coming up ne

kevin corriveau is here with the latest. >> last night we talked about what was happening in felix. today we'll talk about what is happening in vegas. last night we were looking at flash flood warnings across the region, this is what it looked like across the city of las vegas. four inches of rain fell. this being the desert, the water does not soak into the ground. flash flulding is a -- flooding is a major problem. we have seen a big change since yesterday. i want to show you - all the warnings dropped except for a bit of flood warns in parts of nevada. it's not over yet. by tomorrow things will be better. the big problem is what is happening across the mid west. we are looking at tornados. four have touched down in the north-western corner, as the thunder storms pushed through. hail, wind damage and major problems across the area, down to parts of kansas as well. this will continue. the frontal country will bov down here. we expect the same ascertain down to the swast. we are seeing temperatures dropping across the northern plains into the 50s. that will be the highs. we'll see i

kevin corriveau is here with the latest on that. >> as you said, we've been looking at this for the last couple of days. we talked about wisconsin, missouri, and toronto. the tornados were reported in ohio. there has been reports of five up here towards parts of cleveland. you can see the line of thunder storms clearly all the way down the ohio river valley and this is due to cold air coming in across the northern plains meeting up with warm air. when the air masses come together, that is when we see this type of damage. we talk about wind damage, flooding, and here is the tornados we were talking about. the severe weather threat has diminished but is replaced more with flooding that we see through parts of ohio, indiana and kentucky. as we go into tomorrow, the frontal boundary will make its way into new york and peninsula. we don't expect to see the same weather, it will be messy, wet, for much of the east coast to all the way down it virginia, if you are travelling tomorrow there'll be delays at the airport. >>> next, why detroit's bankruptcy trial was put on hold until monday. >>> pr

. >>> good evening, i'm meteorologist kevin corriveau.take you back 24 hours when we were looking at this line of thunderstorms moving through nebraska. take a look at the video that came out of da coda city, nebraska, where they saw up to 98 mile an hour winds in the area. a gas pipe was broken. power outages were widespread. this morning the community got together and started rebuilding, but it will take weeks to get the city back to normal. this is what we were looking like. all of these yellow dots are wind damage across the region, and we're still seeing a lot of problems as we go through the rest of today. we have thunderstorms popping up right now, and we also have tornado warnings in effect. right now where you see those red dots that is here in parts of missouri and oklahoma. that's expected until the next hour so we'll be watching that area carefully. >>> this summer we have introduced you to some of the united states most talented artists. here is a look back with john siegenthaler. ♪ >> reporter: bold strokes, brilliant colors

meteorologist kevin corriveau is here with more on it. >> before we go to the fire. the fears are 65% or more contained. that is good news for the other fires. this is the king fire. i want to go closer so you can see the magnitude. there is lake ta ha. this is the king fire. 3,000 people are evacuated. 70,000 acres burnt today. that is up from 24,000 yesterday, so that has - you can see how much it has increased in intensity and size just in 24 hours. we have about 25,000 firefighters on the ground right now. unfortunately they do not know when this will be contained. 5% is contained. it has threatened many homes. we are looking at a change in the atmosphere. the fire is burning here. this is a water vapour shot. the orange is dry air. white or green is moisture coming into play. there's moisture coming in from the north-west. and temperatures coming down a little bit. we are dealing with the windy conditions, and the drought situation which we cannot change, but hope to get a little more humidity into play over the next couple of days. >> thank you, let's get back

kevin corriveau, meteorologist, is tracking it for us. >> we are watching the storm, it's a category 1. these areas have experienced the flooding from the storm. this storm is already producing a bit of rain along the western coast of the mexico, and we had clouds now pushing into the south-western part of the united states, and that is what we'll be interested in seeing what happened. as you notice, the storm moves to the north, becomes a depression, and makes a turn to the north, and towards the californian coast. look at what we call spaghetti plots - the forecast models putting together the track of the storm. when you look up here later on, what is left of the storm makes a turn towards california. that is what we are concerned about in terms of flooding across the region. >> friday looks like heavy rain. saturday, same thing. on sunday, we need to get the heavy rain pushing into california. what this means is we are going to see flash flooding. remember, this area is in a drought. all the rain will not soak in, causing a lot of flooding. back to you. >>> ahead this hour - the g

let's go to kevin corriveau from the weather center. >> that's right. the areas of flooding we were talking about. we have a bit of relief. >> perfect. >> there's an area of fires that we talked about last week, that was a king fire. i want to break this down. you can see an area of circulation. on the eastern part of the area, that's where we are seeing the flooding across nevada and utah. on the western side of that area, this is where the king fire is located, and we have seen rain showers in the area. that's good news there. we had seen about 95,000 acres burnt across the region, but it is now 75% contained. they are also picking up snow here across the sierra nevada. and that is about 7500 feet and above. not too much of a priority. what we'll see is that rain starting to make its way to the north-east. so idaho, mon tan yes, all the way to colorado. it will be a rainy sunday as well as this other area that we are watching across the south-east. so georgia, we'll see rain. that will continue to make its would up to the eastern seaboard. by the time
