joining us now to talk about it, north dakota senator kevin cramer who was a member of the armed services committee is in the room and welcome wisconsin congressman derrick van orden, who was a navy seal and thanks to both for coming on. senator cramer, you did testimony yourself there, which i really loved. hadn't heard that from you before, but in general, you're a man of faith, i'm a man of faith, pete hegseth is a man of faith, donald trump is a man of faith, but what did you take away from the hearing today? >> well, larry, several things but the first is that pete hegseth is absolutely the right person for this job. not only the warrior ethos that president trump wants him to bring but people that underestimated or understated pete hegseth's intellectual capability have not been around him. he rattled off facts and figures and historical anecdotes like a pro. he was very comfortable in the room, and he had a lot of sport in the room as you might know. i've never seen a nominee for anything have as many supporters in a hearing room as he had today. then the other thing i took away is

and i actually just caught up with senator kevin cramer. he is backing hegseth and has been a strong supporter of him for several weeks now. but i did ask him what message it would send if the past republican leader, mitch mcconnell, who obviously is just a rank and file member at this moment, what it would mean if he voted against hegseth and he said, you know, it might be a black eye on his legacy and his career. but he also noted that it is a senator's prerogative to vote exactly how they want to vote. but it is such an interesting moment because obviously we know mcconnell and trump have had a frosty relationship in the past. we also know they have very different views of what the u.s .'s role is around the globe, what the u.s .'s role should be in the war in ukraine. and i think there are some questions about where mcconnell is tonight. he just walked onto the floor and our colleague ted barrett said he was silent as he was walking onto the floor. obviously, mcconnell doesn't do a lot of hallway interviews, but given the gravity of thi
