i want to bring in kevin guthrie, the director of florida's division of emergency management.of your time. given the predictions being made how much are you able to prepare when the potential landfall stretches all the way up from south florida to the panhandle? >> that is a challenge, no doubt about that. but we have an outstanding team here in florida. we do consider ourselves the tip of the spear, as one of the top three, four, five, emergency management agencies in the country. so what we're doing to compat that is we work with our partners at fema, the division of emergency management that we do house 1 million gallons of water, 2 million meals. so we already have that in our warehouse. we do have our agencies with fema that have millions of gallons of water and millions of food -- shelf stable meals ready to go. so we're prepare. the one thing that is a little bit of a moving target right now is where do we setup that staging area? so we -- that's a challenge right now. we're working through that. we've got three or four locations picked out. we're just trying to get som

earlier i spoke to kevin guthrie, the director for the florida division of emergency management — hee. we are maybe 28—30 hours away from landfall in florida. it is expected to get to a category four storm. it will be just barely category four, but it will bring, as you mention, life—threatening storm surges, catastrophic flooding, catastrophic storm surge to the state. the message is, it's a mandatory evacuation, you've got to get out. are you confident people will, given their past experiences? it's a tale of two states. those that are new to the state have typically heeded the warnings. those that have been here for a long time usually do not heed the warnings. we do have people evacuating. we would love to see everyone evacuate. but we don't think we will get 100% compliance. what are you expecting or concerned about in terms of damage? still a lot of timber homes, for example. do you think they will go? how much can a category four do? category four is going to cause a lot of vegetation damage, trees will probably be a 100% loss. anything that has a gable roof will most likely c

this morning kevin guthrie, our team management has asked for additional high water vehicles from the department of defense and coordination of fema. they have approved the request for dual status of the national guard forces under title 10 to provide additional resources and additional forces and we're really thankful for the fulfillment of that request. we have about 1,200 personnel for the department of transportation that are on standby to perform operations. these guys can't work if they can't get to where they are going. so that's the top priority for the department of transportation and highway patrol. to clear these roads torks make sure that the bridges are safe and to green light these operations to get back into these communities. in southwest florida, this is a lesson from irma. they have people that are calling leave behind teams. so when the storm passes, their job is to clear the runway asks make sure we can resume air operations as quickly as possible. there's going to be a need to bring in things like food and water via the aircraft. so you want to have the runways up

kevin guthrie joins me now. you guys were well-prepared, kevin. prepositioned.ou had the warnings out early. accurate reading of the path of the hurricane held. what's the latest? >> right now we are experiencing, you know, catastrophic storm surge and catastrophic window damages the congressman mentioned two pieces ago. we are prepared to respond to that. we have more resources staged for this disaster than we have ever had staged for any other disaster in the history of florida. we plan to come in here to, again, to the congressman's point, we do plan to come in by air first. we will have search and rescue assets ready to go, and by helicopter. they will get on the ground and assess simultaneously. we will have coast guard vessels as well as florida fish and wildlife commission vessels that will be approaching from the sea. while the units that are over in on alligator alley in broward county will come in by land and push themselves into through all the debris, push themselves into the heaviest impacted area. so we are going to put a three prong attack on this
