abc7 montgomery county reporter kevin lewis is live with the deciding factor here. this is big kevin: it is, alison. as the investigation unearthed more witness interviews, high school surveillance video and forensic evidence, authorities admit they became increasingly skeptical of the girl's story. yesterday, the police department brass and the top prosecutors met to decide the best move. the decision to drop all the rape and the sexual assault charges against 18-year-old henry sanchez and 17-year-old jose montano. however, both men are not in the clear. montano's now facing charges of possession. distribution of child pornography. while sanchez has a possession of child porn charge. that stems from a racy nude video that police say the this-year-old girl sent montano the night before the rockville high school bathroom meet-up. montano is accused of then forwarding that video to sanchez. hence, the distribution charge. >> we have facts in this case do not support the original charges filed in this matter. due to the look of corroboration -- lack of corroboration and

today, montgomery county reporter kevin lewis went looking for answers. kevin: 6:00 a.m.aturday, an off-duty police officer walked to the squad car parked outside his home. the department shotgun, ar-15 assault rifle and the ammunition were missing from the trunk. then two days later police arrested 18-year-old mario alvarado at albert einstein high school. alvarado, a high school junior and a citizen of el salvador had allegedly brought the ar-15 to school important. today we asked the rockville police department why it never notified the community after criminals stole the high-powered weapons and ammo. a spokeswoman dodged that question and declined on >> i suspect that they were embarrassed about it. >> mary's beliefs rockville p.d. made a bad situation worse by keeping quiet. >> first, it's the responsibility of the police department to inform the community at large. >> rockville p.d. has a thorough 12-page firearm policy that states the republics can be left in a locked car trunk. however, investigators say the unmarked chevy impala had no signs of forced entry. >>
