reporter kevin oliver has more on the toll the lack of snow is taking on businesses. >> reporter: whats normally a winter favorite, full of parents and kids sledding, stops short at the asphalt right now. the snow park at nyack is usually filled with families around the holidays. today, there were only a handful of cars in the parking area, and the sledding runs here were hard to come by. >> there was snow a few weeks ago. i thought maybe there was going to be enough. >> reporter: with little snowfall this december, you have to search for snow-capped mountains in this part of the sierra. one exception, boreal ski resort, where workers have been firing off snow-making machines whenever it gets cold enough. >> i don't know what the rumor is down there, but we have plenty of it. we have an extensive snow- making system here at boreal. >> reporter: skiers and snowboarders took advantage of it, packing the slopes that were open. >> lot of fun. there's not a lot of break for school. >> haven't been in a couple of years, so i was determined to make it up. it's been overall good. >> reporter:
