vaughn. police say kevin morong was trying at excessive speeds trying to get away from police when he crashed. reporter: authorities are still trying to figure out why kevin morong, who was allegedly reaching speeds of 100 miles per hour, failed to stop for police. authorities say this is the result of an s.u.v. driving at speeds of more than 100 miles per hour. through several towns sunday state trooper saw a blue toyota rav4 speeding eastward. >> the trooper tried to catch up to the vehicle to stop it, but the vehicle was traveling so fast that it got out of his sight quickly. so he radioed ahead, the hillsboro police department subsequently saw the vehicle too. reporter: a hillsboro officer pursued the vehicle for a short time trying to get the driver to pull over, but eventually broke off the chase becauf speed. authorities say it wasn't long before calls began coming in about a crash. >> apparently the operator of the s.u.v. had lost control of the vehicle and struck three other vehicles in the process. reporter: police say the driver of the s.u.v. was ejected and pronounced dead at the
