khizr khan is our guest.is memoir is out this week called "an american family: a memoir of hope and sacrifice." yes a second book for young people "this is our constitution: discover america with a gold star father." stay with us. ♪ [music break] amy: this is democracy now!, democracynow.org, the war and peace report. i'm amy goodman with juan gonzalez. our guest, gold star father khizr khan for the hour. his son killed in action in iraq in 2004. in your book, khizr khan, "an american family," you write -- "you know i'm against the work of my told humayun. he increased his mouth into a tight smile and nodded i know." what are your thoughts about the iraq war? >> this is nothing new. this is nothing secret. i have been against the reason for that. i know some history of that part of the world. centuries-old history. the conflicts that have existed there. for my nation, for my country to get involved in that, i was with the people that had disagreed with that. there was no american interest to be served there.

please welcome khizr khan.ome to the show. >> thank you, trevor. >> trevor: before we get into the book, let's take a step back to when for many people your journey began in the american public eye, and that was during the dem kratdic convention, we spoke out against donald trump's banning all muslims. you spoke out because you were someone who is a muslim person, but someone who has family members who live in the country and most importantly your son who died fighting for this country. how did your life change from that moment, and what did you decide to do with your life after that became the news story that it did? >> i have spoken to 162 events since then and journey continues, journey of hope. it has been amazing, amazing to see how much hope there is in this nation. how much we disagree with this division, with this hate that had been sowed by donald trump and his poetry of advisors. most of this country is so hopeful that this anomaly will be over soon and we will continue to move forward. of course poli
