the kibbutz is completely destroyed. is there anything more that you want to share with us about what happened and how she's doing tonight? >> well, she's recovering. she has multiple shrapnel wounds. this was a story of immense determination. her eyewitness account, she was taken not alone on that electric cart, but with another ten or so women and children from the kibbutz. and we don't know what their fate is. only she was able to escape. i think -- you know, our mutual children and grandchildren are incredibly grateful that she was somehow able to crawl her way back about a mile and a half, surrounded, essentially, by hamas terrorists who were looting the kibbutz, everything from jewelry to our largest tractor, and picking up straggler captives as they went along. so, her account and her seeing the kibbutz utterly destroyed, this kind of botanical garden of eden that we created in the middle of the desert is now a smoking hulk. it's an experience that very few people, i think, could survive and say anything about. >>

but what we're also now seeing at kfar aza, that kibbutz also nir oz, another kibbutz, all these kibbutzes which are very close to the border, they were among the first places attacked as hamas breached the border at multiple locations. and i mean frankly the savagery that we have seen taking place in those from survivors' accounts and evidence on the ground as you just heard from that general, it's -- it really is coming now into focus. you have very personal killing of families, of people with their hands tied behind their backs. you know, in many of these kibbutz, in all of these kibbutz they're right on the border. they're used to rockets. they're used to the threat. they all have safe rooms in their houses. many people would escape -- tried to escape to the safe room. but many it happened so fast it was so early in the morning they were caught unaware. there's one account at the kibbutz where nic was of a family which put their two children in a cupboard and then the family was slaughtered. the children survived in the cupboard. they were rescued hours later when neighbors heard them

his daughter was visiting the kibbutz last night. she was staying with her brother where there was more room. her brother eton did not survive. but dafna is "outfront" with me tonight. and, dafna, i am so sorry for your immense and undescribable loss. although i know it is miraculous that you have your father. when we called you, you had not seen any of the images of your parents' home. so you wouldn't have known that a journalist was in there seeing it at all. but i know you grew up in this kibbutz, your parents move this house when you were just a teenager. can you tell me these images as you see any of this now? can you even understand what happened? >> um, well, as i was writing down with his caregiver, she said, the house is burning. for me, it was unbelievable. now when i see it, i'm shocked. it's something i cannot grasp at the moment. >> you did share some of the messages among your family during the attack. some of them i'm just sharing, obviously not saying who said what. but someone says, you hear the shootings. a reply it

this is a small kibbutz near the northern part of the gaza strip. it is part of that envelope of communities that sit right on the border right there. the israeli prime minister's office has not given a number on the number of children that this happened to, but when any israeli hears about innocent lives like this taken in such a brutal fashion, this is why i think we're hearing the rhetoric from the israeli military and the government the likes of which i have never heard before, and whatever the israeli military is planning to do in gaza is going to be the likes of which we have never seen before because israel has never experienced anything like this literally since the days of the holocaust. that's why you hear so many people refer to the days of the holocaust and this is bringing obviously, a lot of sadness and shock to israelis and also a lot of anger. >> absolutely. i just want to let people know what you're looking at. we are looking at video from that kibbutz where the israeli prime minister's office now says that they discovered toddlers

what did these militants do when they got to this kibbutz? >> they massacred everybody here. 112 residents of this kibbutz were murdered. we can see just the level of destruction of what happened and when we imagine, they come in early morning. people are asleep at 6:00, 6:30 in the morning. surprise them in their homes, some butchered in their beds. it's horrific. >> david: they killed more than 100 people here, and they took captives, too. you're all convinced that members of this community, some of them were taken captive and dragged into gaza? >> correct. correct. we can't imagine what is going on with them right now. >> david: here in this community, orthodox religious volunteers have been recovering the bodies here. but we also notice what's been left behind. everywhere you look here, you see the signs of brutality what was done to the families here in those early morning hours. then you come across this, wrapped in plastic, another body. this one though is different. you can see in red here, they have written simply "terrorist." they w
