kpix 5 reporter kiet do is live near the scene with more details. kiet. >> reporter: good morning.ite a story about some bold crooks this morning here in milpitas. we shot this video of the active scene. at 2 a.m. an officer leaving the police department heard the alarm going off at target masters in milpitas a gun store and gun range and it is literally right next door to the police department headquarters. the officer saw a suspect climb off the roof of the building into a vehicle and then drive away. there were two suspects inside the vehicle and they were arrested a short distance away. then a third suspect was seen inside the gun store holding a weapon. officers ordered him to drop the weapon which he did. but since he climbed in through the roof, the front doors were locked and he could not exit the building. so he was trapped inside there. here's a lieutenant to explain what happened next. all right, apparently they talked with him for about 3 hours or so trying to get him to come out the front door. the s.w.a.t. officers took hours to get the front doors open. he did at one

kpix 5 reporter kiet do is alongside the new lanes which just opened up moments ago. how are things going so far. >>> reporter: you know, so far, so good. you're looking at the counter- commute direction now so not a lot of people using it but we are right at the beginning of these new express lanes. this has been years in the making. east bay commuters have more options and more relief. the new express lanes are 580 eastbound starting at hacienda and goes for 11 miles. the express lane is free for carpools, buses, van pools, motorcycles and qualified clean air vehicles but here's the catch. you will need the new fastrak flex tag. it has an indicator switch numbered 1, 2 and 3 and you select how many passengers are in the vehicle. solo drivers can use the old fastrak tag but you will be charged a fee calculated on the amount of traffic on the road. freeway signs will constantly update you on the cost to travel from exit to exit and these new express lanes are in effect from 5 a.m. to 8 a.m. and they are free outside those hours. 580 westbound lanes will open up on mon

kpix 5's kiet do shows us the scene from san jose. >> reporter: just a huge mess out here at the grand century mall in east san jose. take a look. we have fireworks debris that in some spots is ankle deep. as you know, illegal fireworks is normal in east san jose for this time of year. that over there in the corner is a new one. this is cell phone video of the wild scene last night here at the mall where you can see roman candles and mortars firing into the air. police say one of those mortars landed in a tree and then caught the tree on fire. witnesses say the crowd just watched for a couple of minutes until the flames spread to the main building. somebody called 911 and that's triggered a two-alarm response. san jose firefighters got to the scene knocked down the flames quickly and the fire was downgraded to a one-alarm fire. the building had only exterior damage to one business, century bakery. this man saw the whole thing. >> upist wondering why everybody just left midway and then i was like wow. crazy. >> reporter: the vietnamese community knows when it comes to fireworks that the
