kiet do is live in san francisco to explain . >> reporter: earlier this month pg&e was in the federalourthouse in san francisco. you have the sense that the judge has had enough after years of downed power lines causing wildfires all across the state. the judge has a new proposal that the company inspect all power lines before the start of the season this summer. pg&e says that will be massively expensive and potentially deadly. they have 106 miles -- 106,000 miles of power lines from eureka to bakersfield. they say to inspect it all before the official start of the wildfire season, june 21, costing up to $150 billion and they would have to jack up the rates as much as 500% to cover the cost. the judge wants them to give each line a safety rating certified under oath but pg&e said they would have to cut down over 1 million trees causing a significant environmental impact. they said that pg&e has to cut off power to lines in high wind but pg&e said that could have fatal consequences. the court decision today could make the problems even bigger after they filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy

we have kiet do live with details. stroke all across california federal workers are trying to figure out how to help their members. the federal employees union has rented space at the ramada inn to create the help room, giving out checks for groceries and gas, and helping them fill out applications for emergency loans and unemployment insurance. this is a chance for employees to meet during the stressful times and commiserate and support one another. there is a high number of federal workers impacted in the shutdown, 42,000 statewide, 800,000 nationwide. this is the week when they can feel it because many paychecks are not coming through. the units are becoming more active and vocal including the union for the tsa workers. by the way, they are some of the lowest paid federal workers in the country. the tsa is disputing that saying that the waiting times at the airport are in the acceptable range but the union said that could soon change. >> it is profoundly unfair and almost disrespectful to put us in the middle of thi
