supervisor kim: could you be specific? >> one of the biggest challenges children face our mental health issues. it is becoming more and more difficult to access mental- health. that is one big area. a second area that is extremely important is the adequacy of nutrition that children are receiving, not only in there schools, but in there lives outside of school. whether it is the shelter they are in or moving around. the third thing is educational. homeless children, on average, 30% to 50% of kids do not attend school on a regular basis. they have a tendency to repeat and drop out of school. starting from the time they are infants, they have issues in developmental areas. they are disadvantaged in this way. so, improving the ability to provide these services from an educational standpoint is very important. in the last year with the new education liaison, a look forward to working more closely to improve the situation is here. supervisor kim: thank you so much, dr. ma. we will open this up for public comment. if you would l

supervisor kim? supervisor kim: how many units can be developed in this project? >> theoretically, the project could be even out. it could be squeezed and number of different ways. typically, you can have two 84- foot buildings that would net the same units. you could program the project with a series of smaller or larger units to increase or decrease. it is not so entirely dependent on the height of the building. supervisor kim: can you talk about more why the desirable project was a higher height with the same number of units? >> well, the proposal was ultimately for an increase tight at a portion of the site, with the trade off from the design standpoint of lower residential buildings on the embarcadero, so that was actually rather than a height, that really better for fills this whole urban design plan of sloping down to the waterfront, so you do have a taller building within the overall plan, but it is situated in the back where the tallest adjacent buildings are, and then the height is reduced immediately along the embarcadero. supervisor kim: thank you. i w

director kim: and how do you do that work? how do you recruit students into the program here at tjpa? >> here we have the summer intern program. we have the academy pathway. we are encouraging all our students from the 11th and 12th grade to take part with some kind of internship. we're trying to standardize throughout the district, where students are making sure since they're in the academy, that they are focused on entrance peeping that they do their various assessments, focused on where they are in the field. architecture, civil engineering, technology. and then we have research, local research around the school, around the neighborhood. what organizations support that industry. we encourage students to get in contact with those industries, find out more about what a person in the profession would do. we also have the teachers interacting with the students, doing job shadow's. students going to the work site, shattering the students, perhaps -- shadowing the students, perhaps getting a better feel of what they would do in t
