kim jong-un. a professor of korean studies at john hopkins university, how big a deal is this? it has worldwide implications. >> it does, the first time that he sitting u.s.that this will lead to a new chapter in the relationship, and and this hostility that really has characterized the relationship. since the founding of the north korean regime in 1948. >> this is a short summary, face-to-face in less than one h their interpreters, do you think there is the ability here to reach any kind of agreement, or is this more of a first step?>> i think it is more the first step, there is a very long road to go, along the path, and i would hope, this is the first step down the path, eliminating the hostility, perhaps establishing some kind of conversation, i would not expect there to be an agreement today on denuclearization, but again, the path beginning to take steps towards that, and addressing some of north korea's key concerns over the decades, as well as u.s. concerns the region. >> the president has said he would be able to size up kim jong-un in seconds, and he says based on wha

hopkins school of advanced international studies. welcome to the show. both of you. the president is preparing for the summit, kim jong-un has done his homework, what does the president need to do? >> i think the president needs to work out along with his team what he should say, what he should not say. and what some of the benefits that he can offer for kim. i think for -- if i were prepping the president for this type of event i'd keep it as simple as maybe a quadrant where you have a say, avoid, what to s i think the president should be aware that kim jong-un all accos he's been reading up on everything. what is going on in south corey, in the u.s., as well as russia. >> you've negotiated with north korea before, the president is not known for being scripted. is the outcome of this summit prebaked? how much risk is there in getting these two leaders in the same room? >> i think a lot of us hope that some of it at least is prebaked and it makes sense. but it's very hard to know. i think both these people who are meeting are infamous or famous for their improvisational their surprise factor. es s -- i taking goo
