kim jong-il himself is on record as saying that kim il-sung smuggling qualities were the key to his success so when people say that north korea is a confucian patriarchy, they really couldn't be further from the truth. this is not a confucian society at all. kim jong-il as well, even when his depicted in military uniform, he comes across more as salvation army matron. he looks very feminine, and in photographs he looks like a south korean housewife.
