iowa's governor kim reynolds is expected to sign a new law banning abortion after six weeks as earlyve signaled support for a 15-week federal ban, so is iowa in your view, making a mistake? is it too restrictive? >> no. every state should make their determination on this, and while there's a debate about a national abortion policy, it's most likely going to continue at the state level, and i think governor kim reynolds has done a good job on this. the iowa legislature has passed that six-week bill twice now. it's a heartbeat bill that says if the unborn child hasa a detectible heartbeat, then an abortion is not viable in those circumstances. i support what iowa has done and today will be talking about that. also, i'll just say that governor reynolds being attacked by former president trump for being neutral is pretty ridiculous if you want to carry iowa, and all of those will be topics of conversation, but i support governor reynolds in what she has done with the legislature, and protecting unborn life. >> so let me just ask you about that because i went back and read your op-ed on t

at the state capital for a rare special legislative session called for by republican governor, kim reynolds she puts it, the session is for, quote, the sole purpose of an acting legislation that addresses abortion and protects unborn lies. currently in iowa, abortion is legal up until 20 weeks. joining us now is iowa state house minority leader, democrat jennifer conversed. thank you so much for joining us, we appreciate it. i want to talk polling if i, can first. some polls we've been seeing lately when it comes to where islands stand on abortion rights. 61% of islands actually say abortion should be legal in all or most cases. 35% comparatively saying abortion should be illegal in all or most cases. then you have your governor, essentially saying, and i quote, the lack of action on abortion disregards the will of iowa voters. that doesn't really add up. >> no, it certainly doesn't add up. i think it's fair to say the governor here is obsessed with her lawmakers and her voters. she is frankly implying that the voters elected republican majority so they could have this issue taking care of.

governor kim reynolds who called this special session is behind this drive.l into law friday, the same day most of the republican candidates will be in iowa for a forum with evangelical voters, except for donald trump. he's an outlier here. he supported limiting abortion rights, but has not put a number on it. that's the question here going into the campaign. is this going to box in republicans, including nikki haley and others, who didn't want to support something as extreme. mike pence put out a statement earlier today. he's supportive of this six-week ban. he believes it's necessary. this is one of the state by state decisions that is in the wake of supreme court decision last year. the bigger question is the federal ban. some republican candidates have been supportive of that. the point of the supreme court ruling was to send it back to the states. this is what governor reynolds is signing on friday. we'll see if it holds up in the courts. >> it's up to the state promise disappeared quite quickly in republican politics. we've seen legal challenge toss law
