francis ann kimball was a celebrated actress and member of the theatrical family who came to the united states on tour in 1832. in 1833, she performed in washington to great acclaim. in fact, she was presented to president andrew jackson at the white house. she would later describe the president as a good specimen of a fine old battered soldier.
