kiberlee sakamoto tells us about the president's plan to make college more affordable. >>kimberlee: the president address the problem of rising tuition costs saying that higher education is necessary to succeed in america but the cost is too unrealistic and the burden of the debt is unbearable. according to the college board, average tuition and fees rose 8.3% this year with room and board now costing more than $17,000 a year. he said the government will be pushing the schools to stop yearly tuition hikes. >>president obama: from now on, i am telling congress that we should steer federal aid to colleges they keep tuition affordable and provide good value and serve their students well. you cannot assume the contract of tuition every year. if you cannot stop tuition from going up than the funding you get from taxpayers each year will go down. we should push colleges to do better. >>kimberlee: the president is also pushing for the creation of a billion dollar competition for states to keep tuition costs down. all of these changes would have to be approved by congress. six >>jaqueline:
