kimberley, thank you for joining us.ood morning to you. >> good morning to you. >> millions demanding changes on police are trained and how they work when they get that badge. we are seen the protests across the country. you have written about something interesting up there in washington state about changing the mentalities of the warrior mentality to a guardian of democracy mentality. >> well, so this is something that was already under way before the shooting of michael brown in 2014 and it really took off and a call for there to be more of this training. the idea is you treat people with respect and find ways to create time and distance between you and a possible perpetrator. so things don't spiral out of control. the things that civil rights leaders are up set about that, that was 2015 when these reforms and trainings took off and here we in 2020 and we are still seeing videos that are very reminiscent of what were seeing in 2014 and 2015. >> let me ask you, when i watch some of these protests, some of them are viole

there are members of this commission, senator ernst and senator johnson from wisconsin in iowa, kimberley from des moines. the commission is nonpartisan. if you study these issues, you realize pretty quickly that the country has a spending problem first and foremost. i don't think anybody doubts if we are going to make significant headway there needs to be some bipartisan consensus bill. just speak to a moment for colleagues who i've worked in a productive manner across the aisle, who do you think in the u.s. senate, in the democratic party, both of you are members of the republican party, both of you who you think might have a real interest in engaging in meaningful deficit reduction conversations? >> let me first start off by saying i love the word, non partisan, it's what i use all the time. it's the chairman homeland security of government affairs, it's a very nonpartisan, bipartisan committee. we work together because we focus on areas of agreement. there's plenty of things in these partisan times that you can disagree on, but there's also plenty of areas of agreement and so that's w
