hello, kimberly. >> hello, diane. over 100 ninth graders came to stanford today to pitch their business ideas in hopes of turning them into reality. the 12th annual build youth business plan competition is actually open to all bay area students. and the winners receive funding to launch their own businesses. but the non-profit does target schools in east palo alto and oakland and focuses on attracting students here who might otherwise be at risk of failing classes and dropping out of high school. those who get into the build program start in the ninth grade and commit through high school. 100% of them have gone on to college. through build, students are mentors and get help developing their own business ideas, writing out business plans and then launching them. >> we believe that there is an untapped talent pool in the united states today that no one is paying attention to. and these kids often have the choice of going into a gang or doing something special like this. these are the kid that will lead us in the future.

kimberly? >> reporter: diane, the guardian angels say they dissolved their chapter here in san jose, but because of the recent violence, they are bringing it back. san jose has had to investigate two homicides in a matter of a few days. and as you mentioned, their total number for the year officially stands at 21. that is already higher than the total number of homicides for the entire 12 months of 2010. this morning, just before 4:00 a.m. police arrived at the 1700 block of schulte drive close to story road in east san jose to find an 18-year-old with multiple stab wounds. he was taken to the hospital where he later died. police say just a couple of blocks from the stabbing on wednesday, a 22-year-old was gunned down. police have not arrested suspects in either case and are looking into whether they are related. meantime, the volunteer citizen group the guardian angels say they'll be making a comeback in san jose. they are already talking to residents about their concerns about recent violence

kimberly? >> reporter: community activists say they are going to step up their efforts in san jose as a result of the recent violence. police say they arrived at the 1700 block of schulte drive in east san jose this morning just before 4:00 to find an 18-year-old with multiple stab wounds. that man whose identity has not yet been released was taken to the hospital where he later died. police are still looking for the suspect or suspects and into the circumstances and motive behind the fatal stabbing. they are also looking into whether there are any gang ties. this incident falls on the heels of a 22-year-old man gunned down just blocks away. he was shot multiple times and no suspects have been arrested in this case either. that happened late wednesday night. now the number of homicides so far this year has surpassed the total number of homicides for all of 2010. while the numbers aren't too surprising to the guardian angels, a citizen group that patrols crime-ridden neighborhoods, they also say

nbc bay area's kimberly terry is at the san jose police department with more. kimberly? >> reporter: it was a very violent night in that south san jose neighborhood. right now detectives are trying to sort it all out. they arrived last night in the 4000 block of ambler way to find a woman shot in the driver's seat in a black mercedes sedan. police say they performed cpr but she died with gunshots. a 20-year-old man walked into a have the santa clara medical center with nonlife threatening wounds. police say he was shot in the same area where they found woman but they will not say if the two women or the shootings are related. neighbors who heard the commotion don't want their faces shown on camera but tell us they're upentity the violence and want those responsible caught. >> sometime between t10:00 and 10:30ering with heard gunshots, six to eight of them. and we got down. we didn't want to get hurt. and then we called 911. and the police officer showed up fairly quickly. >> i guess they found the girl slumped over in the front seat of the car which is really sad to me.

kimberly? >> reporter: we were told minutes ago a search warrant has been written for the home that has been involved. fairfield police are just waiting for the search warrant to be signed so police officers can go into the home in question. really they're looking into what led up to the shooting that left three people dead and another person injured here. fairfield police say they got the call just after noon today. the caller said he was shot inside the house and said the gunman was also inside continuing to fire his weapon. when police arrived, they say they found four victims, two people were dead, another had non-life-threatening injuries. he was taken to the hospital, treated, and released. and a fourth person was taken to the hospital as well. he later died. police determined this fourth victim was, in fact, the shooter. and he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. police say there is a history of tension between the people living inside this home, the victims, and gunman are believe

live in san jose, kimberly tere, nbc bay area news. >> thank you. >>> a 26-year-old nursing student is missing tonight, more than 24 hours after taking a break from her night class at kaiser hospital in hayward. michelle never returned from her class break. investigators say they found her car several blocks away from the hospital parking structure. they say she also had her cell phone with her when she walked out of class but calls to her phone have gone unanswered. classmates tell police she planned to drive to reno to visit friends after last night's class. >>> this is graduation season. some 7,000 students graduated from san jose state university. while the day was festive, two students were not there. 25-year-old cindy caliguiran and thomas williams were shot and killed in one of the university's parking garages earlier this month. caliguiran's husband is suspected of the killings. after the shootings he killed himself. both victims were due to graduate from the undergraduate accounting program today. the university granted those degrees today to their families. >>> it was also gr

kimberly tere is at the san jose police department with more for us. >> reporter: diane, that's right. one woman killed, one man injured in the same area of san jose. now detectives are looking into what the connection is, if any. but there is a problem here and that's some potential witnesses are not cooperating, which is hampering the investigation. san jose police say they arrived at the 4000 block of ambler way to find a 35-year-old woman shot in the driver's seat of a black mercedes sedan. paramedics performed cpr but the woman died from her gunshot wounds. about 30 minutes later, a 20-year-old woman walked into the santa clara medical swernt non-life threatening gunshot wounds. police say he was shot very close to where police found the woman but don't know if the two victims or the shootings are related at this time. neighbors say they heard about six to eight gunshots last night and called police. none of them wanted their face shown on camera, but they say the woman who was shot is a mother of five. >> i feel really bad for the kids, because the mom -- you know, they lost the

live in san francisco, kimberly tere, nbc bay area news. >>> police in fairfield say three people are dead after a shooting at a house in the middle of the afternoon yesterday. it was a house that police knew well. they had been called to that house 12 times in just the past year for disturbances. neighbors identified 37-year-old jason eisenberg as the man responsible for killing a man and woman before turning the gun on himself. he is also suspected of injuring a third person who escaped and called 911. the woman killed was his ex-girlfriend. she filed a court order to live in the house since her name was on the deed. since her return, neighbors say there's been turmoil inside the house and many calls to police. >> i hear arguments come from there. so i don't know, it seemed, i thought maybe something could happen but never like to that extent. >> police say a court order was served to someone at the residence yesterday, but it's unclear if that triggered the shooting. the alleged shooter's father seen here also lives in the house. he says he was able to seek shelter with a neighbor
