joining me now is kimberly atkins, senior opinion writer and columnist at the boston globe, the cohostnd an msnbc political analyst. kimberly, i have to ask because i read your latest piece and it gave me some optimism. so what do you have to say to the people that are tuning in when they don't feel optimism right now? but we do see some progress being made in places like the courts. >> yeah. >> so i think. >> one response that i was getting frequently that concerned me was the idea that, look, we have people just like a general wiser and other attorneys, generals and other folks across the board really resisting, really trying to stand up for what our government is supposed to be and, and reject the authoritarian moves that are being made by the federal government, by the executive. and i hear people say, well, if there is a court order, what happens? i mean, the president and the executive can just ignore it. they won't carry it out. or aren't there just judges who were appointed by trump who are going to rubberstamp this? or won't the supreme court, which granted him immunity, just

we've also got kimberly atkins store, a boston globe columnist and a former attorney herself. a great group for this present moment. but i want to start first with you, kimberly, if i can. there was supposed to be we learned from a superseding indictment here. what do you make of the fact that they're trying to wipe these charges away, just as s.d.n.y is reminding them? not so fast. we had more. >> yeah. ali, i think that's a crucial element here. there was another grand jury that sat and that gave the go ahead for obstruction charges to be added on top of the charges that mayor adams already was facing. the prosecutors were doing their work by the book. this went before members of his grand jury, of his peers, new yorkers, who said that there is enough here to move forward with charges. so with that to be taken away and to have an order delivered to drop them, irrespective of that work goes against everything that prosecutors are supposed to stand for. and it underscores this idea that politics should play no role in the determination of prosecutorial decisions as a foundation

joining me now is kimberly atkins, store, msnbc political analyst and senior opinion writer and columnistthe boston globe and co-host of the sisters in law podcast. good to see you, kimberly. thanks for joining me. so what response are you expecting from federal judge dale ho is he weighs, you know, whether to approve of this filing to dismiss charges? >> yeah. so he. >> has a. >> couple of options available to him here. it may seem logical that a judge cannot force a prosecutor to prosecute a case that they wish to dismiss, but there are certain things that could happen here to sort of help flesh out exactly what was happening here and whether there was a quid pro quo at play where donald trump was ordering this prosecution dismissed in exchange for mayor adams help on immigration enforcement, the judge, dale ho, can hold a hearing and bring all this out to life. he can do it to light. he can hold it in open court for some transparency before he makes a ruling at all. he could also appoint an independent prosecutor to prosecute the case if he believes that it should move forward with a p
