in the newsroom, kimberly terry, nbc bay area news. >>> dog owners need to be alert in san francisco. more poison food has been discovered in the twin peaks neighborhood, the poison meatballs that animal control officers found last summer. they killed at least one dog. today officials say they found 21 more meat balls laced with poison. most of them were found near crestline drive and park ridge drive. officers have posted dozens of signs to alert pet owners. so far they've not heard of pets sickened or killed by the meatballs this time around. >>> this was a disappointing day for team usa in sochi falling short of the podium. americans had nine chances at medals today. all came up empty. >> american tim ligety back on the slopes for the final alpine skiing event of the games. janelle joins us in sochi with more on that. hello, janelle. >> reporter: hi, terry, hi, diane. not a great day to wrap up al pie skiing. it was rough on the slopes in the men's slalom. looked like they were strumming and tumbling down the mountain last night in the final alpine skiing race of the sochi games. 1

nbc bay area's kimberly terry live in san jose. >> reporter: we saw it start raining here at about 5:00 here in san jose. you can see the guadalupe creek here. it's barely moving now. the rain has been heavy at times. right now not much of anything. but of course that could change. this is only the second storm the south bay has seen this winter, but the deputy operating officer at the santa clara water district says there need to be several more big storms to make a marked difference. >> it would take a good, you know, 8 inches of rain, basically, to start seeing any measurable runoff into our local reservoirs. the watersheds are that dry. >> reporter: earlier we in an area that would normally be covered in water. the reservoir is part of the system that normally collects water, but as you can see, mother nature not cooperating. a water use reduction target has been set at 10% and they'll consider additional recommendations at the february 25 meeting. the hope is that there will be many more rainy days just hike this. live in san jose, nbc bay area news. >>> thanks very much. and you

kimberly terry is live at the san jose police department with the latest in this developing story. >> reporter: those two victims were taken to the hospital. they are expected to survive. right now police are chasing leads, hoping those leads will lead them to a suspect. king plaza was packed with people when shots were fired. >> i heard gunshots, probably seven to nine rounds, not too far, like right behind this plaza. and right afterwards i seen two people running by. >> reporter: this surveillance video shows the victims trying to get away. one got like, i've been shot, i've been shot. >> reporter: police say it was a drive-by shooting, but witnesses say they saw the shooters standing in the plaza. >> when people get in an argument they usually start yell egg and screaming and want to shoot afterwards. this guy started shooting first a then screaming afterwards. >> reporter: you heard what he said? >> he said don't worry, i know where you live at. >> reporter: business owners say the area has been plagued with violence. they want to see an end. >> we want it to be clean. we don't w

nbc bay area's kimberly terry live at the scene. >> police have have west cap expressway shut down for a few blocks as they continue to investigate this accident here. the call came in just after 3:00 this afternoon and police say they showed up to find a man in his 30s. he was lying on the ground bleeding. he was pronounced dead soon after. witnesses told police there way fight that occurred before the car accident after which the driver took off. >> officers responded. based on witness statements, witness accounts there was an altercation in the middle of the roadway. and that's all we have. we don't know what started it. >> police won't say whether the victim was heard during that fight or if the car accident was the thing that killed him. this is something, of course that, the coroner will be looking into. several witnesses were taken to the police department so their statements could be taken. meantime, homicide detectives are continuing to gather evidence and follow leads in this case. police say they don't know yet what the connection was between the victims and suspect with inf

kimberly terry is live with more on the charges and how this could impact cases that these officers worked on. >> reporter: that's right, the public defender says more than 100 case, many of them felony cases had to be dismissed as a result of the allegations against these officers. >> this was our worst fear. >> reporter: a three-year federal investigation ended with indictments for five officers and a former officer. >> this is not only a betrayal of the public's trust but a betrayal of all the men and women of the san francisco police department who work hard every day to do what they can to keep san francisco safe. >> reporter: the charges against each officer vary. but they include searching residential hotel rooms without cause. the allegation originally came from the public defender who released surveillance videos showing the alleged misconduct. >> we had numerous instances where we took the police officer's statement, under penalty of perjury and compared it to the videotape, and it shows that they were lying. >> reporter: the officers indicted are a 51 year old, a 37 year old, a

kimberly tere has more on that. >> reporter: terry, we spoke with some students tonight who are planning a protest for tomorrow. it's going to be at the golden gate bridge at noon and they're hoping to get enough people there to form a human chain across the pedestrian bridge there. and in doing so, call attention to the violence in venezuela. for the last two weeks, protesters have been holding marches, set fire in the streets, and have been clashing with police. a demonstration is against shortage also of basic goods, high inflation and high crime levels across that country. they say this has been going on for years and they want to see a change. the uc berkeley students say they've been on their phones and computers almost nonstop trying to get information on what is happening in venezuela and whether their families and friends are safe. >> we just want a big change. i think people are on the right track to that. but we need the international attention, too. >> reporter: in particular, these students want the united nations and political leaders to step in here. they say anyone intere
