i'm kira klapper. new overnight firefighters continue to work lentlessly to gain ground on those devastating southern california wildfires. as more los angeles residents were forced to evacuate last night, the mandatory evacuation zone for the palisades fire spread all the way east to the 405 freeway. that's nearly ten miles away from pacific palisades. the death toll stands at 11. in all, five fires and more than 12,000 structures have been burned. we just about a minute ago received numbers from la fire officials. they say that the palisades fire has burned more than 21,000 acres. and they say that acreage is likely to change within the next half hour. it is now 11% contained. the l.a. medical examiner says five people died in that fire, and as many as 5000 structures have burned in the palisades alone. as for the eaton fire in altadena, the threat is not over there either. it is now burned more than 14,000 acres. 15% o of it is contained. the eaton fire is being blamed for six deaths, and about 7000

i'm kira klapper. we want to begin this morning highlighting the firefighters tireless efforts in los angeles county as they continue to battle two of the most destructive fires in california state history. nearly 5000 personnel make up the crew fighting the fast-moving palisades fire still raging since tuesday morning. meanwhile, to the east, more than 3000 firefighters are working nonstop to contain the eaton fire, which ignited tuesday night and took down entire neighborhoods in altadena. the death toll among all of the fires burning at one point, there were five now stands at 16, and 11 of those lives were lost in the eaton fire. at last check, cal fire says the eaton fire has burned more than 14,000 acres, which is the equivalent of 21mi■!s. cal fire says yesterday's calmer winds helped them gain ground. it is now 15% contained but still threatens nearly 40,000 structures. meanwhile, the palisades fire storm continues to grow ferociously, now gaining ground east with the potential to threaten the

i'm kira klapper. the largest homeless shelter in the south bay is now open and welcoming those in need. the ribbon cutting ceremony officially opened the mercado reception center yesterday in santa clara count the nonprofit group home first was there for the celebration. the shelter is located on little orchard street in san jose, about a mile from the santa clara county fairgrounds. it will now offer beds, meals and supportive services to 250 adults each night. the updates on the shelter floor, including those privacy screens and sleeping areas. those entrance walls and bathrooms, are more than just structural improvements. they are steps toward increase respect and dignity for the people that stay here at the prc. the group home first says a $150,000 donation funded the renovation, which is what the nonprofit group calls a better overall experience. staying in the south bay. the search is underway for more people involved in an armed robbery near a sunnyvale elementary school. it happened around thr
