(ken) 46- year old kirk griess (griss) , a 19 year veteran of the california highway patrol, was killedother man during a routine traffic stop today. they were struck by a pickup truck traveling along insterstate 80 in fairfield. kron4's charles clifford is live from the hospital in fairfield... where the driver of the truck is said to be cooperating with the investigation. around 9 this morning. officer griess was on a traffic stop behind saturn sedan on the right hand shoulder of westbound 80 near campos parkway.when, for as yet unknown reasons, a white chevry truck veered to the right and struck the officer, his motorcycle and the sedan officer griess was transported to the hospital but he did not survive. the 49 year-old driver of the sedan, jaime bueza manuel, was also killeed. the driver of the white truck survived.officer kirk griess was a 19 year veteran of the highway patrol, he was a former us marine, a family man with a wife, two daughters and a son. he was also very involved with community. the highway patrol held a press confernence this afternoon at the hospital.
