i am joined by glenn kirschner and doug burns a former federal prosecutor joining us on set.what do the new subpoenas tell us about what state investigators might be looking for specifically as a criminal act? >> it tells us they are looking to see whether these hush money payments may have violated state laws not just federal laws. we know that there were violations of federal finance -- campaign finance laws by michael cohen and courtesy of michael cohen's guilty plea and the statements that were made by the southern district of new york prosecutors at the time of that plea. we also know that then candidate trump was a coconspirator. he was also culpably involved in those hush money payments. so now what the state is looking at is whether that scheme also violated new york state laws. for example, because they tried to hide the true nature of these payments, claiming they were payments for legal services, when they were really payments for illegal services, that may very well have violated new york state laws with respect to executing fraudulent documents. it may have invol
