joining me now is the junior senator from new york, democrat kirsten gillibrand. let me start right there. new york is ground zero. are you pleased with how new york is handling the crisis thus far? >> yes, i think our governors and mayors have been doing an outstanding job around the state. they are trying to help our hospitals be able to have overflow beds. we are turning the javits center into a field hospital. they are opening two additional field hospitals as well as having the "u.s. comfort" dock to take noncovid patients. >> you heard the president might call for a tristate quarter teen, new york, connecticut and new jersey. what would be your reaction to that? >> i don't think we should be taking any health advice from president trump. he's been wrong with this from the beginning. he continues to mislead the american public. i would wait for the health professionals to make those kinds of decisions and then we will absolutely abide by whatever is recommended. but i do believe new yorkers and those in the tristate area are understanding what it means to sta

joining me now, democratic senator kirsten gillibrand of new york. senator gillibrand, thanks for being here amid another very difficult night of news for your state. i just want to start by asking you about the president's news conference. and my colleague ali velshi mentioned he made this claim that there seemed to be masks that are disappearing from new york, perhaps out a back door, he suggested. we want to make sure he pointed out he suggested this without any evidence. we are, of course, working to fact check those claims. but yi was hoping to get your response to what the president had to say along those lines. >> i think his allegations about new york hospitals were beyond absurd. i talk to most of our hospital heads throughout new york city and the state and i can tell you their hospital personnel are the heroes of this moment. they are working 24/7 to save lives. they're begging for ventilators, masks, gowns, supplies. i have one of the suny schools making masks for an upstate hospital because they were out of masks several days ago. for pr

women did not vote that way for elizabeth warren or amy klobuchar and others like kamala harris and kirstend and marianne williamson. they didn't even make it to the primaries. are you surprised? >> i am not surprised, but there's a clue in a cnn/university of new hampshire poll that you all did, where it talked about elizabeth warren and kamala harris. and the poll gave them very strong marks on -- their favorables. 67% for warren and 50%-something yet, when those same voters who were asked, do you like them, elizabeth warren was down on 5% and kamala harris 6%. so, there's a likability factor here that i don't think we have really heard from american voters explaining, what is it? why do you have a favorable position but then you don't like the person well enough to actually vote for them? it's a mystery now. >> right. and somebody who knows a lot about that is hillary clinton, right? and how she had to deal with that same issue. and she's talking about it in a new docuseries. let's listen to this clip. >> everybody has a motivation. the motivation can be petty, it can be ideological. in

going to do that at some point, it will be because of kamala and elizabeth, shirley chisholm and kirsten gillibrand and amy klobuchar and others who tried to reach the same post, hillary clinton for sure. it'll also be because of the all the thousands of women and men who stood behind these candidates and gave their all every single day if many times more than a year, for hillary clinton about two years, to try to make that goal a reality. because each one of us tried to chip away a bit at that glass ceiling. >> and lily, i'm glad you mentioned hillary clinton's campaign especially since you worked on it, but i kind of delivered a sort of depressing tweet about this today and about, you know, no country for old men. it seems like it is a country for old men. it's no country for women presidential candidates and someone reminded me, wait, hillary clinton got more votes than donald trump. that's the part we often lose sight of in this discussion. four years ago the woman candidate for president did get the most votes. >> yeah, you're certainly right. and, you know, again, to quote senator

. >> just this afternoon, new york senators chuck schumer and kirsten gillibrand sent a letter to the cdc and fda asking to give local hospitals the authority to run their own tests. with us now is dr. siyra madad,a specialist, recently featured in a netflix documentary about pandemics. doctor, great to have you here. is there a threat to individuals if they can't get tested? >> across the nation, as we know, diagnostic testing is ramping up, and how much this is going top ramp up by the end of the week, obviously, it's one of the guesses that is out there. but certainly, in terms of preparedness, there's a lot going on the national front. health care systems are ramping up for this situation. a lot of localities are taking a blended approach from containment and mission, so it's one of those things that we're just seeing how things play out over time. >> so, if people can't get tested, though, what does that mean for the rest of us? >> so, we want to obviously increase testing as much as possible to be able to detect, you know, individuals that may have coronavirus disease, but at th

this is something that was sought by both of new york's senators, chuck schumer and kirsten gillibrandthe expectation that this federal major, the disaster declaration, will open up more lines of money and aid for new york. as the state struggles already with the initial large influx of hospital patients and intensive care patients. tonight in washington state, governor jay inslee is also asking the president to declare a federal major disaster in his state as well. again, to help them deal with the spiraling crisis of the coronavirus epidemic. the governor's request comes as king county washington, which includes seattle, now reports a total of 793 confirmed cases, that's up 100 from yesterday. king county is also now confirming 67 deaths, and seven deaths confirmed in the past 24 hours. regardless of what the federal government ends up offering, a hard-hit community like king county, washington, local officials there have not been waiting around for help. chief among the early identified needs in king county is having enough room in the hospitals there, preserving hospital beds, so s

there was kamala harris, amy klobuchar, kirsten gillibrand. better term were considered more moderate candidates. they weren't huge, big medicare for all, with the exception of elizabeth warren. then if you drill into her base, andrea, you look at a lot of her support came from suburban college educated white women. those are the same demographics that was the least enthusiastic about bernie sanders. if you looked at head-to-heads in abc's news polling, for instance, bernie sanders was the worst against donald trump with that demographic. so elizabeth warren, that is engineered to be a little more supportive if you just look at the numbers. so sam's point, even if bernie did pull out a win here in michigan, then you're looking at other huge delegate-rich states like florida, where he has another unique set of challenges, where the inroads he's made for instance with latino voters do not serve him well. if you look at the polling there, he's got a huge deficit as well. if he did pull out a surprise in michigan, it would have to be pretty big in
