kirsten o'connor has the story. >> two days after christmas, police say this man, 1-year-old michael phillips beat and stabbed a husband and wife at their home while their two children were inside. neighbors in disbelief as detectives and dive teams searched the neighborhoods. assaulted like this. >> police sent out this sketch trying to i.d. the attacker and almost immediately tips poured in all pointing to phillips. now after his arrest, the victims are still recovering. the young mother stabbed eight times, her husband seven, including several near his heart and stomach. their two young children were not harmed. but the emotional trauma is still fresh. phillips' picture, the wife says it feels like he is looking at me the way he did when he heard me. neighbors now relieved to know the police had their man. >> we haven't had anything like this go on on, that i can remember. >> that is kirsten o'connor report. >> in hours, a man accused of injuring an orlando officer is set to face a judge for the first time since his arrest. we brought you this as breaking news when the officer was

kirsten o'connor is out there live. she will have an update in 10 minutes. >> fears over the zekea virus it comes as the world health organization confirms the virus is spreading explosively. it has been confirmed in 24 countries, including a handful of cases in the united states. it is transmitted pi a certain type of mosquito. there is no treatment or vaccine for this illness. it has been known for babies to be born with abnormal small heads and that can lead to brain damage and developmental delays. pregnant women being told to avoid areas where the virus has been confirmed and to also wear mosquito repellent. >> deputies say a man posed as a law enforcement officer and scammed a woman out of thousands. the man claims he is a lieutenant with the sheriff's office, gives victims a badge number. he tells people they need to pay a $5,500 fine. an 82-year-old woman fell for it, sent the man the money. others who have been targeted said they knew something wasn't right. >> i have seen many times on the victimized by people

news 6 reporter kirsten o'connor is working to get answers about this. what did you find out when you got there? >> we just arrived a few minutes ago, police are still out here on the scene. you can see that just a few hours ago, this house behind me was just completely covered in flames. the fire department was trying to tackle that fire and the damage is still very apparently this morning. there are windows broken out. half of that house looks almost demolished. still a mystery, about why that fire started. the fire marshal has not said the cause at this point. deputies were here investigating at the same time. we want to give you video of what that looked like. the volusia county sheriff's office tells us deputies saw a man run ing fromthis house, then heard a popping sound and found him dead. firefighters trying to put out the flames say as they were house, roads were blocked. >> the second set of eng had to to turn around and come from a different direction. >> we know deputies saw the man coming from this house out here. they aren't saying if he li

kirsten o'connor is there live in volusia county this morning. what else have you learned? >> i just talked with the deputy on the scene. she tells me they will be here for another several hours. we are still not getting a lot of answers from them about the person who died here. we do know that person died me. you can see there is a lot of damage left behind, crime scene tape is wrapped around that house, broken windows, the whole second half of the house blackened out by those flames. this is where it all started. deputies were here investigating overnight at the same time that firefighters were trying to put out the flames. the volusia county sheriff's office tells us deputies saw a man run ing fromthis house, then heard a popping sound and found him dead. firefighters say as they were rushing to get water on the >> a delay in getting a water supply supply. luckily, they were very aggressive and they were able to extinguish the fire with the water they had on the truck. >> a lot of damage left behind on this quiet street. we have seen a few neighbors come out this morning

news 6 reporter kirsten o'connor is following this breaking news story. she'll have an update in 30 minutes. >> we are following breaking news in orlando where six people have been sickened following carbon monoxide poisoning at an apartment complex. it happened at walden pond condos, not far from i-4. johnny fernandez is out there live. johnny, the complex is actually evacuated as a precaution to keep other people from getting sick. >> that's right. now fire crews say they tell me it can take 24 hours for some people to go back into their apartments. i want to show you video from when fire crews were on the scene. the cause of the mess was an indoor generator that was used inside one of the apartments for maintenance. crews say they got a call from dr. phillips hospital after family of four went there feeling ill. they were treated for carbon monoxide poisoning. when crews got here, they discovered the generator and they say two other people from the complex were also transported with symptoms to the hospital. we are back out live. police tell me that ev
