kitty logan joins us now from kabul. kitty? >> reporter: yes, a u.s. military spokeswoman tells us that the troops were killed by a man in an afghan uniform and u.s. officials have confirmed that those three victims were marine special operations forces. now, local source sources have s a bit more detail. they say the attacker was, in fact, a local policeman and the incident took place at a meeting between marines and local police. they say the incident seemed to be premeditated. but i.s.a.f., the international security forces in afghanistan, say they can't comment on more details or the identity of the attacker because the investigation is still ongoing. but the the local sources turn out to be right and the attacker was, in fact, a local policeman, then this is another case of what the military call a green-on-blue attack: attacks by local afghan forces on the very international troops they're meant to be working with and not against. >> schieffer: thank you very much, kitty. today's attack brought to seven the number of americans killed this week by

good morning, kitty. >> reporter: good morning. this is the second incident in 24 hours where afghans have targeted the military personnel working alongside them. we understand that this incident took place around 9:00 p.m. yesterday evening. we believe an afghan worker who was employed by u.s. forces and permitted to be there aimed fire and shot dead three u.s. military service personnel who were working on the base. this incident took place in helmand. that's not far from where a similar incident took place early wrier in the day. in this incident, three local police were killed by someone who invited them to a routine meeting which took place once awe week. both suspects have been detained. it is investigating these incidents. but, of course, this trend is of great concern to them. a spokesman for the international security force here in afghanistan says that they're looking into the incident. but they are confident that relations between international troops and the afghan forces who are working alongside them do remain largely

kitty logan is in afghanistan. kitty, what do we know this morning? >> reporter: we know that rockets were fired into the u.s. air base late last night. they hit the plane, which general dempsey was due to fly out of. now, we understand that general dempsey was nowhere near the aircraft at the time. he was sleeping in his quarters. he was, of course, unharmed. he has since left the country. two military maintenance men were slightly injured by shrapnel from the rocket. also, he has now left the country, but the taliban has since claimed responsibility for this particular attack. they say they knew the exact location of his aircraft. now, international spokespeople here from the military are keen to point out that this was perhaps a lucky shot, but rockets were fired into bagram air base as often as twice a month with very little damage usually caused. but certainly, this caused alarm. and as i mentioned, general dempsey was here in the country to discuss the military progress and to discuss the latest in the attacks, but he has safely left the country
