klein, where did you get the title for this book? >> they came from a meeting that bill clinton had in chappaqua new york. north of new york city where he has a home. this is back in august of 2011. he invited his wife, his daughter chelsea, and a bunch of friends, to meet with them because he had done a secret poll. this is in 2011, sorry, and the poll showed that hillary clinton would challenge barack obama for the democratic presidential nomination in 2012, he thought she could win. and she was surprised by all of this and said how can i do this? i'm the secretary of state. i have lunch with the man every thursday. what about loyalty, though? >> and he said there is no such thing as loyalty in politics. he then went on to say that the people did not understand how the real world works. that they had been responsible for losing america, the aaa credit rating, the first time in its history. and that barack obama was, in his words, an amateur. now, i spoke to two people who are at the meeting. when i heard that i said the amateur, th

we called it the ezra klein challenge.he challenge was this, could i make you care about spanish bond yields in under two minutes. my argument was simple, if you're picking one indicator to watch to see if it was going to survive or fall, you would pick spanish bond yields because it would be bad if greece had to leave the euro, but it would be survival. there is no world where spain goes down and the euro endures. if spain goes down, the euro is going down. spanish bond yields, the thing you need to remember is the higher a bond yield is, the higher a country has to pay when they borrow money. spain can't afford to borrow the money necessary to finance itself, and the eurozone is going down. and that means our economy might be going down, too. well, since i did that segment, spanish bond yields have kept going up. this graph may not look so scary, those two lines, but it is actually terrifying. it's spanish bond yields at record highs. this is way above the level which the gryo, which spain and the euro can survive. tonig
