. >> knbc's cliff judy brings us the latest from kansas city. >> reporter: for three days police searched irwin and for three days received no solid leads. thursday night investigators made their first major announcement in the case. lisa's parents, jeremy irwin and deborah bradley stopped talking. >> they have always been free, been cooperative up to this point. earlier this evening they decided to stop cooperating. >> reporter: an hour before the press conference, knbcs cameras were there as the irwins left the police headquarters. they said they last saw lisa in her crib, and they called 911 early tuesday morning. jeremy's sister spoke to reporters thursday night denying the family stopped cooperating and even thanking police. >> we have been cooperative from day one and we continue to assist the police with the investigation. the main goal has always been to find lisa and bring her home. that remains the sole focus of the parents. >> when i first heard about it. of course your first reaction is to grab your kids and hold them as tight as you can. to be honest, i have my kids sleeping

. >> toni beginiard from knbc is there with the questions that remain. >> absolutely, tamron. there is overwhelming grief here to the community uncustomed to this kind of violence. the city had only two homicides over the past five years and now they are dealing with the death of eight people in the same day. it all happened here. take a look behind me. you see the cloud of people off to the side of this hair salon. members of the media and the community coming to pay their respects. the shooting happened at salon meritage. some are leaving flowers and others are standing silently to say say prayer. the suspect's wife worked here and they were aware of the custody fight between the suspect and his wife over their young son. just about everyone who was there seems to be in shock. there was a feeling as i said of overwhelming grief. we are waiting for the police department to release the names of eight people killed as well as the woman who survived. we do know at this hour that six of the victims were women and two were men. this community is one where everyone knows about ever
