knbc's george pennacchio has the highlights. ♪ i'm on the edge of glory >> reporter: week five of "dancingthe stars" ended with a cha cha challenge. and when the dancing was done, the judges chose to keep jaleel white in the competition, sending singer gavin degraw back on the road. what didn't you have to get you through to the last week of this game? >> well, it was a tough week. we had travel that made it a little more harder. but no excuses. the reality is, this is something you sign up for. you have to go after it 100%. there were days we couldn't do it 100%. you know, because there was only 30% left. >> reporter: during his time on the show, gavin did get to fox trot and do the jive. he got his best scores for the rumba. did pretty well with the tango, too. but his samba, this week, went south. >> this show gave me another perspective. it gave me an opportunity to step outside my elements. into someone else's element. and realize what a big pair of shoes they actually are. >> reporter: gavin's partner karina smirnoff, says it's been a joy dancing with someone who is so optimistic. >>

knbc's martin augustine brings us the latest from kansas. >> reporter: this is overland park regional medical center, the suburban kansas city hospital where some of the 13 survivors of that crash are being treated for their injuries. nearly everyone was riding in that rv is related in some way and they were on their way home to minnesota. from above you see what's left of a large truck and trailer. the wreckage strewn about below that bridge. the truck had been fitted at a recreational vehicle. the 18 people riding in it had just spent a weekend in texas. for some reason the driver of the truck drove off the shoulder of i-35, tried to steer it back on to the highway but crashed into a guard rail sending the truck and trailer flying into a creek bed that is proving difficult for rescue and recovery crews. >> the vehicle is literally destroyed. the trailer is destroyed. it's in one of the toughest areas in 23 1/2 areas of law enforcement that i've worked trying to remove a vehicle at a scene. >> reporter: on the trailer a logo for g-dog racing. the trailer was full of motorcycles and r
