. >>> typhoon kompasu has made landfall in the korean peninsula. meanwhile, a tropical storm is also approaching southern china. we now go to saki ochi from the weather desk for an update. saki? >> yes. that's right. in fact, both have actually made landfall now. and kompasu has since making landfall been downgraded a little bit, weakened slightly. now at tropical storm status, reaching winds of 83 kilometers per hour. gusts slightly stronger than that. it's still maintaining that fast speed. so it's quickly going to cross over central sections of the peninsula and then head into the sea of japan, crossing over northern portions of japan later on this weekend. by then hopefully it will have weakened just a little bit more and down into a low pressure system. meanwhile, tropical storm lionrock has also crossed into the southern china coastline. this one not quite as strong as kompasu, but it's been moving slowly. so here rainfall amounts have really been accumulating, and it will continue to rain pretty heavily here. both systems, of course, produci

first a look at typhoon kompasu, a strong typhoon that did cross over the okinawan islands last night it's now working over the yellow sea and will likely cross into the korean peninsula in a couple of days. it is working at a fairly good clip. also strong winds packing winds of well over 140 kilometers per hour. so this is a very strong storm system that we need to stay on the watch for. now, southeastern china as well will need to brace for tropical storm lionrock. this one now moving toward the north at 15 kilometers per hour. it's picked up speed a little bit more and will likely make landfall here within just another day or so. now, both systems of course have been producing quite a bit of rain already, but expect that rain to continue and intensify in areas where these storms are headed, especially for the korean peninsula. we're seeing very heavy amounts of rain expected to start later on today. keep a close eye on local watches and we will be keeping a close eye on developments as well. >> thanks very much, saki. >>> well, prime minister kan says his government will study effe

remember that we've just had pretty much the same thing from typhoon kompasu. this typhoon made landfall yesterday, near seoul in south korea. but that was after tracking pretty much the same path into the yellow sea. we've already seen a bit of a battering from storms in the islands that will be high risk for flooding and landslides. the rest of japan, mainland japan, is doingly absolutely fi. heavy rain down no northeastern china, the south as well. another area to watch across mongolia, heavy rain coming. actually the win is the biggest problem and that is bringing the temperature down by ten degrees between saturday and monday. more heavy rain also continuing across parts of western indo-china. that's our monsoon rain. temperatures in the 30s across south. shanghai, down into manila, bangkok as well, tokyo. 35 degrees here as the heat wave continues across the country. north america now, talking about storms here, too. i new tropical depression that formed south of the baja peninsula, heading west. then there's earl, a different story altogether. this is ou
