korea to pursue its nuclear aspirations. north korea has obviously defied that aspiration so there is a schism between north korea and china and now north korea is isolated. it's really isolated itself from the international community, including china. now, as we look forward, what we can look to is how does this play out in terms of military alliances. what china does not want is for the united states and its allies to continue to build up its own military presence in the asia pacific region but given the circumstances in north korea today, that is probably most likely going to be the case. ben: what about the united states? you're sitting there in washington. what sort of pressure can it bear? shihoko: the united states, president obama and john kerry in particular, has already come out with a statement strongly condemning the activities of north korea, is actually in the united nations as i speak trying to come up with a united front on this, as well. we will see coordination, as stated at the beginning, there had been coordinated efforts in the form of the six-party talk but that has been in the wayside the last few years.
