harry fawcett is live in the south korean capital seoul. harry get us up to date on how the reunions have been playing out so far. >> this is as you say the final day. we saw those amazing pictures on the first day, tuesday, when the families here from south korea arrived, wednesday was a reportedly more relaxed and warm and comfortable day after those initial meetings. they had some private meetings as well. they felt like they were getting to know each other a bit better according to those reports and then of course comes what would be a moments of resadness for many of thesreal sadness.they wg good-bye. a final fair well afte farewell. the military demar case line in a couple of hours time from now and this will be the last almost certainly they will ever see of these family members. about five these families have very close familial bonds. husbands and wives, parents and children, also siblings, but the the vast majority is between uncles and nephews, satellite more distance bass s because sof these have already died. north korea will r

he disappeared while serving in the korean war. wmur' s shelley walcott has more on this emotional day for his family. shelley: army sergeant christopher vars was buried with full military honors at a church in reading, massachusetts today. he disappeared 65 years ago while serving in the korean war. his remains were thought to be but his nephew, charles vars of amherst, new hampshire, fought for years to get information on his uncle. in 2009, a mass grave was found near a north korean prison camp. a dna match helped identify vars' remains. friends and family, many whom never got a chance to know vars personally, got to know vars as an american hero today. >> he was part of the greatest generation. a period in our history where men and women of this country all came together in unison. we remember appreciatively of this generation. shelley: vars' relatives were lucky to be able to give him this honor today. more than 7800 americans are still unaccounted for from the korean war. live in studio, i' m shelley walcott, wmur news 9. tom

lee is an ethnic korean. he lives in a village where three police surveillance cameras have now been installed. in total, ten people have been murdered in this remote region since last december. chinese government officials confirm another citizen was shot in the area two weeks ago but they won't say if they think north korea is to blame. in response to the murders, some have moved away. but villagers like this man had already begun to empty as younger generations left to find better prospects. only the elderly remain and they feel especially vulnerable now. when they cross the back on the recorder looking for food you just give it to them you'll be fine. if not, they might take revenge on you. the security fence is more than three meters high here but some worry that the barrier is not enough to protect them. just across the border, a glimpse of everyday life in north korea and as you can see here there's a gap in the fence making it very easy for a north korean civilian or soldier to slip into china. china'
