you are looking at the fire burning near koufax., there are a number of fires burning throughout the state, and the three to the north of us are sending the smoke in the air. the winds are expected to initially push that smoke into napa, marin and then alameda, contra costa and solano. that haze expected to stay in the upper atmosphere and not on the ground level, so it's something you may be able to see but not feel. i'm feeling a little wind here. >> we have cool video, bob, we have seen coming out of the fires that have been happening, and it's been really amazing to see how the smoke and fire generates its own fire. you can see the circulation that happens there as the heat causes the air to rise, and you have the winds come into the fire and it makes the wind rotating and causing the flames to spread and making it more erratic and dangerous for the crews to battle. we have seen the dixie fire shift directions and it's affecting different areas previously than we have seen, and the smoke is coming our way. the near surface model

this is time lapse, by the way, what you are looking at of the river fire burning near koufax. from cal fire, there are a number of fires burning throughout the state, and the reason i mentioned it's expected to fuel the smoke here in the bay area, you have three different fires. the winds are expected to push the smoke into marin, sonoma and solano and contra costa. with more on our weather for today and perhaps when this inversion layer over to our meteorologist, conditions here and beyond, bob, because of the fire behavior and how the fires develop impacts our air quality. we have seen the past couple of days the wind shifting and bringing us cooler air and increasing the winds and causing the dixie fire to spread in a different direction. more of the smoke coming up. we are starting out with the clouds and fog this morning but once that clears out we can see more smoke and hazy skies over the santa cruz mountains as well as the east bay, and we will be monitoring that as it possibly could get more unhealthy tomorrow. we will talk more about that as well as our hotter temper
