i am going to talk about two fundamental points that we shou kp in mind as we discuss postal reform, which are part of the broader issues that the presidential task force is looking at. the first point is that we have to keep in mind reports of the u.s. mail being dead are greatly exaggerated. if i talk to my kids and i say i have to mail them something, they will say why don't you just scan it? it seems everybody today is talking about paying bills online or just doesn't ve a need for mail, but that's not the reality, and the statistics don't bear it out. for example, according to the 2015 census, 15% of households in the united states do not have the internet. that means there's a great need for mail. there is a great use of mail on a daily basis. the revenues of the postal service also bear that out. the postal service last year had $70 billion in revenues, 49 -- 49 billion of that w from old-school mail products that are out there. and yet the mail business that is done is often treated with disdain. even the postal service will say, well, you know, volumes are going down in mail
