kpix 5 reporter jessica flores is there to tell us more about the suspect. jessica. >> reporter: elizabeth, this suspect had a history of domestic violence and he caught up with his estranged girlfriend where he killed her, 29th and rheem. i want to show you what's going on right now. a teacher from 8th grade, a victim's teacher, left some flowers at this corner she says she actually went by and talked to the mother's children and one of those children says his mother was his sunshine. richmond police say the suspect was driving this silver mercedes-benz stalking his estranged girlfriend before taking her life. a neighbor's surveillance camera captured the horror. the mother in her suv driving up to the stop sign. the ex-boyfriend pulling up right beside. police say he got out and shot her killing her instantly before taking off. her two young children in the back seat but unharmed. neighbors swarmed in to help. one woman got the children out of the car and escorted them away. >> i cannot believe what happened. i opened the door and went outside and i saw th

"sky drone 5" showing what that same stretch of road looked like yesterday. construction crews were busy building a retaining wall so they can eventually restore the road. it's one of only two roads leading up to lick observatory that's at the very top of the summit. caltran

kpix 5 reporter da lin just arrive at the scene with new details.. .. da? >>> welcome back.'s go right back to our breaking news. an oil spill in the san francisco bay. >> kpix 5 reporter da lin just arrived at the scene with new details. da. >> we understand the oil is still leaking into the bay at this point. it's hards to the release point but we're going to go ahead and zoom in. it's just release point is somewhere south of the new eastern span of the bay bridge. the coast guard is saying the sunken barge is releasing hyesel fuel and possibly now, t draroundli c l. 12:30 this morning. it was holding about 4,000 gallons of diesel fuel and 300 gallons of hydraulic oil, basically lube oil for machinery, according to the coast guard. now, the coast guard has deployed 3,000 feet of containment boom to prevent the oil from spreading. so far no reports of wildlife fish or marine mammals being affected by the oil spill. the barge is owned by bart. it's 100 feet long and about 50 feet wide. it is part of their maintenance program. bart is telling us that they use the barge to bas

and we'll get hit pretty good as you can see on the kpix 5 hi- def doppler.e have heavy cells now that are unwinding over parts of marin county and then beginning to move out into the city, as well. those heavier cells too now blanketing the east bay with emeryville and piedmont and berkeley getting the brunt of it. that will all be moving into concord and livermore and walnut creek before you know it. futurecast shows what's happening for the next few hours. more rain for the north bay before it all begins to -- the cold front will sink south tonight. you will get more in santa clara county towards midnight. gusts already to 40 miles an hour and picking up. bright colors showing you gusts in that vicinity. but as the night wears on finally the velocities east off so at sunrise it won't be a factor. but in the meantime high wind warnings are posted throughout the bay area for gusts up to 55 miles an hour at the bay area peaks. it will be a windy and wet system between now and sunrise. in terms of amounts, 1 1/2 to four inches at the higher elevations in the n

kpix 5 reporter len ramirez is live tonight. >> reporter: within the last hour fremont police held a news conference about the only thing they would confirm is the suspect fired upon the officers before the officers returned fire, killing him. beyond that they had little to say, citing on going investigation in the very early stages. it began at this seven/11, a witness flagged down an officer report agfight between two men inside the store, one flashing a gun. the parks officer approached a parked car with several people inside and called fremont pd for back up. >> the officer asked for expedited cover, which basically means get there now. >> reporter: when fremont officers arrived, a suspect bolted across the street to an alley behind the wal greens, luis hernandez heard police searching. >> they kept asking the subject to come out and he wouldn't respond. >> reporter: officers say they found the man hiding on top of a u-haul truck and first did respond to commands. >> sure enough a individual then stands up from the top of the u-haul truck and puts his hands up. >> reporter: a law

kpix 5 reporter jackie ward is there now. what are the students saying about all this today?reporter: ken, this was a rally for students by students. it was hosted by the black student union and the students we spoke to said they want to take all the hateful events that have happened and turn them into a learning opportunity. that's where kpix 5 reporter da lin is standing by. da. >> reporter: well, brian, there's a drainage pipe running underneath the street here in st. augustine drive and sometimes the city says major storms will overwhelm that pipe forcing water on to the streets flooding these homes. so a handful of neighbors on st. augustine drive are getting readky by sandbagging. this house is flooded twice. most of the damage was in 2012. his house was two feet under water totaled three cars and he spent $200,000 to fix the house. other homes on the block also have flood damage. so andrew will be up tonight keeping a close eye on his house. >> these sandbags go across the driveway. so hopefully, when the -- when we have a flood situation that keeps the water in the street. >> larger pipes to replace existing pipe, um, through the yards and then go underneath the streets st. augustine and that would carry more flow, so hopefully the water will stay in the pipes. >> reporter: the city blames this drainage pipe for the flooding three feet wide but stil

in the newsroom, jackie ward, kpix 5.as supporters of a new road repair bill are still counting votes: new t-v and radio ads are hitting the airwaves. the goal is to get commitment of eight state legislators who are undecided on the proposal. "finally, there's a plan to fix roads, improve safety, and fund projects in every community, with strict accountability. but the legislator needs to act now." governor jerry brown's proposal would mean a 12 cent per gallon brown's proposal would mean a 12 cent per gallon gas tax increase on top of the existing 18 cent tax on gas. vehicle fees would go up an average of 48 dollars -- based on the value of the car. and electric cars owners would pay 100 dollars extra every year, since they don't pay any gas taxes. all this adds up to five billion dollars annually for road repairs governor brown is calling for the legislature to vote by thursday. in the next half hour kpix 5's melissa caen will tell us what's behind the rush to get this bill passed. white house senior adviser jared kushn

kpix 5's kiet do has the latest now from san jose.iet. >> reporter: there were two relatives inside the victim's car who survived this crash. they are both now here at regional medical center in east san jose in stable condition. this family has been going through a lot. they are in shock now, they are just stunned, trying to make some kind of sense of this tragedy. on great america parkway and highway 1 one, the skidmarks tell the story. last night vinod bonthu was driving his red mercedes on 101 exiting the freeway going about 40 miles an hour. he was trying to veer right when he lost control and hit the median. bonthu ended up on the opposite side of the road and crashed head on into a subaru. carina kubow, 61, and her mother, angela bontilao, had just left a thursday night service at our lady of peace. they were killed after leaving church. >> very tragic for the families and for the community and for all the parishioners there. yeah. very sad. >> reporter: bonthu survived the crash with major injuries but is now under arrest at v
