here is kpix 5 chief meteorologist paul deanno to break it all down for us, paul? >> reporter: it's been a winter storm warning in this sierra or winter storm watch since monday night. it is now friday night heading into the weekend. this particular warning not done yet. about six more hours. the snow should also wrap up. later snow tonight, but total snowfall two to four feet with some isolated spots getting five feet of snow in two and a half days. here's a look at the radar for the past three hours of weather history here. there are still some spotty showers anywhere in the sierra. we're seeing an increase in shower activity over the past hour or so in the bay area, but still nothing like what we have seen earlier this week. one heavy shower has moved through, heading out towards hayward and union city. a pretty heavy cell over the financial district stretching across treasure island over towards oakland and alameda. futurecast will keep the rain chance elevated overnight tonight. some spotty showers or scattered downpours. here's a change. showers will last int

latest on the kpix high-def doppler shows not much in the central bay area. a few light showers popping up over there. for the santa cruz mountains, for a moment the first wave we had go through has dried up. it is not that cold, not yet. concord's got 64 degrees here at 20 minutes after 11:00 at night. and a double barrel low will continue to drive our weather and the rain all week long. all the way through saturday. so there is this fundamental shift in the pattern that's offshore. futurecast shows the next band of rain is going to be coming in just in time for the morning commute tomorrow. so a fairly decent cold front will be on the way. really more of a disturbance coming through and it will be wave after wave of rain. so it will pour, it is up. italy is up. that's the pattern for the rest of the week with more on thursday. so in terms of totals between now and thursday morning, an inch and a half in the north bay. half an inch in the east bay and south bay. santa cruz mountains could pick up two inches. of course in the mountains it would have turned to

kpix 5's andrea nakano has been digging into the suspect's past. aandrea -- andrea? >> yes, there are still many unanswered questions. the main one being his motive and whether this incident has a direct link to terrorism. it was just around 7:00 on wednesday night when the fbi says he drove his unauthorized kia minivan onto travis air force base. according to agents, the guard saw flame in the car as it approached the main gate. the minivan eventually veered off the road and burst into flames. authorities found five propane tanks, three plastic one-gallon gas cans, several lighters, three cellphones inside the car. but they haven't found jihadi- type videos or evidence suggesting this is a terrorist- related crime. >> we are investigating to try to determine what was the reasoning behind this? why did it occur? we don't have any encouragement at this point. >> reporter: he says he is originally from india, but has been in the u.s. since 1993 as a permanent resident. his most recent address has him living here in these apartments in sausalito. teddy rarely saw kazi,

here is kpix 5 chief meteorologist paul deanno with more. paul? >> ken, it is still snowing in and around mount hamilton tonight. high elevation snow in the bay area, scattered showers continue becoming less numerous. often happens this time of night. let's take a look at radar. the snow showers are east of san jose. that white is not rain, that is snow falling just east of san jose in fremont. heavier showers on top of fremont. light rain for danville and livermore. we'll zoom in on a heavier shower moving over san pablo bay. that has its sights set on vallejo and hercules. the sierra, that is it. it has been snowing heavy all night long for a couple of hours. it was snowing at a clip of four inches of snow per hour. additional snowfall between now and 10:00 tomorrow night when this winter storm warning could end. we could see another two to four feet. lots of trouble for those heading up to the mountains. it'll be rough out there. scattered downpours will continue through tomorrow. any heavier shower contains small hail. we'll talk about what ha

live in richmond, i'm jessica flores, kpix 5. immigration officials were transporting h nal for a conn >>> an eye detainee is on the run after he escaped from a busy airport last night. immigration officials were transporting him through jfk international airport for a connecting flight when he got away. surveillance video which hasn't been released yet shows the suspect getting into a cab. there is no threat at the airport. his name hasn't been released. >>> this afternoon, a lawsuit against the vallejo police department will be filed by the family of a man shot and killed by police. ronell foster was a father of two. the shooting happened last month on marin at florida street. police say that the officer shot foster in self-defense after being called to the area for a domestic violence dispute. the department also added that the officer involved deployed his taser before using his gun. it was ineffective. civil rights attorney john burris is representing the family. >>> in just a few hours, three men arrested for a deadly crime

kpix 5 reporter jackie ward is live in the newsroom with how events unfolded. >> reporter: police say information they gathered over the last day or two led them to consider mark condit a suspect. surveillance teams were then able to locate his vehicle in round rock, texas, leading to the confrontation and explosion. police collected evidence wednesday morning from the scene where the austin bombing suspect blew himself up. law enforcement sources have identified the bomber to cbs news as 23-year-old mark condit. investigators say they had tracked him down to a red roof inn north of austin overnight. they were waiting for tactical teams to arrive but when left the hotel in an suv, officers closed in on him. >> as members of the austin police department s.w.a.t. team approached the vehicle, the suspect detonated a bomb inside the vehicle. >> reporter: authorities say condit is behind at least five explosions this month, four in austin that killed two people and one in a fedex facility near san antonio earlier this week. we got these surveillance photos. it's believed the suspect droppe

kpix 5'sidatey n spoke to -- kpix 5's katie nielson spoke to some who have a long recovery ahead. >> reporter: they do. investigators were here trying to figure out how and where this fire started. city building inspectors said the walls are in danger of falling so police are keeping everybody back. business owners said they are frustrated. this is the second time this building burned in the past four years. >> you see this happened again? i mean, i don't know what else to say. i don't. >> reporter: tears of sadness and frustration as he came to see what is left of his store. it was one of five businesses destroyed last night when a fire ripped through building at the corner of union street and columbus avenue in the north beach neighborhood. >> my place is gone. it is gone. there is nothing i could see or do. >> reporter: people captured video of flames shooting high into the night sky from the roof of the building. san francisco's fire department said no one was livering in the building -- living in the building when the fire started. a fire destroyed units in 2013 and they were ne
