kpix 5's katie nielson is live in oakland where it is a different scene tonight compared to previous protests. >> reporter: yeah. what a difference a day makes. last night and tonight those protest right here at 8th and broadway in downtown oakland. but tonight's protest smaller and it also remained peaceful. it started up broadway and for an hour hundreds gathered in the plaza on the steps of city hall demanding social change and asking for their voices to be heard. around 7:45 p.m. they marched down broadway toward 8th street, the same intersection that saw clashes with police last night as the curfew neared. but tonight was very different. the 8:00 p.m. curfew came and went. police stood in a line with no barricade. protesters chanted and one man spent an hour recounting his story of what he says was rails profiling by police. no threats of chemical agents or arrests. then around 10:00 p.m. officers got on a loud speaker and thanked the protesters for their peaceful protesting and asked them to move to the sidewalks and then the officers walked away and so did the protesters. and

we begin with kpix 5 len ramirez and the hospitals to do more coronavirus testing. len? >> reporter: well, there was quite a ill little bit of back and forth between the county and some of the private providers today with the county saying that private hospitals need to do more to help the county reach its goals in terms of testing people for the coronavirus. but the hospitals are saying that the county is not doing enough contact tracing at this point to make those tests really valuable. santa clara county has been opening pop-up testing sites like this in response to the covid-19 pandemic. the county has set a goal of reaching 4,000 tests per day, but the actual number of tests conducted is far lower, about 2,300 per day. >> rand we just can't do that alone and we feel it was necessary at this point to order -- to issue this order so that we, again , can do all we can to protect the people of this community. >> reporter: today the health department issued a new order requiring all large health care systems in the county to offer testing to patients in their systems who
