in san francisco, kpix 5. >> a man is in critical condition condition. it happened before 6:00 along virginia avenue. the motive remains unclear. no word yet on any suspects. >> mask mandates could return as early as next week. it comes after a new cdc study says that vaccinated people with the delta variant could spread it to others just as easily as unvaccinated people. bay area health officials have already recommended that people wear masks indoors but the san francisco health director said their health department has been discussing indoor mask mandates along with other counties. six counties reported more than 8,000 new covid deaths in the last week. that is an increase of more than 30% from the previous week. we asked ucsf disease expert about possible mask mandates. a.i. do think that it is likely that counties will increase including our own have mask mandates. it doesn't mean you can't do the things you were going to do, but now, you will do it with a mask. >> daily case numbers are now higher than they were at this time last year. however, the
