>> you have to give credit to kqed for beginning it.er of us came in quickly. >> tell us the back story. why did you decide to gather dozens of partners? >> i think right after the governor signed this bill, senator bill 1421, this is a huge change in police transparency laws in california. me and one of my colleagues were talking about what was our obligation to get records and report on them for our audience. there was no other answer than we needed to get all the records. we started to reach out with other public media partners that we worked with on other projects and it grew from there. we've been working very closely with the bay area news group. it's amazing to see all these news organizations working together to truly serve the public. >> is this the future? will we see more of this across the country? >> i think certainly within california that this kind of collaboration makes great sense. if the issues are right such as climate change, you can imagine a number of news organizations coming together and pooling their reporting.
