kraig debro is in the hayes valley community right now with a look at the new high-tech parking smeertsat are we talking about kraig? >> reporter: good morning, dave? congestion pricing for parking, basically a $24 million two year pilot program paid for mostly by grants from the federal government. beginning today the first of 5100 meters will start being installed in hayes valley this morning. and this is what future parking in san francisco could look like. these are the metering going in. they accept coins, debit and credit cards but the main feature is congestion pricing. right now it costs between $2.50 and three dollars per hour to park on the street in san francisco. it could range from 50 cents to $18 an hour, that is probably with a special event. the busier the street is the more you pay to park. administrators say they won't be wild swings in the cost depending on congestion, change won't be higher than 50 cents an hour. coming up we will take a look at another feature of the program that will help street parkers avoid driving around the block to throbbing for parking spaces
