is hard to believe that it has been 25 years since the world first met jerry, george, elaine and kramernfeld" debuted july 5, 1989 on nbc. it change america's landscape forever with the seemingly unlikable character and catch phrases. a quarter after century later it is considered one of the best tv sitcoms in history. "tv guide" is out with a special edition honoring a quarter century of "seinfeld." joining me editor for "tv gui " guide." this show was on for nine seasons. you know, the legacy certainly is still with us big time. i think of so many different episodes. the cartoon episode when george dates a girl that looks just like jerry. what was it about "seinfeld" that was so revolutionary? >> i think why we still like it today is that everything about it was built to get a laugh. these weren't characters that you wanted to be friends with and that -- and -- really wasn't a lot of character development. there wasn't a lot of meetings on the side. there weren't heavy messages. everything was about the gag. the stories were elaborate setups to a gag that had great payoff at the end.
