good morning, sam and kris. we did speak with the fire department and between them examine calfiand calfire, they plan to have about 70 men and women here and also nearby at alum rock. this is one home that was lost in yesterday's fire, and within the past hour, the family who lives here removed papers from their site and they're still on-site sifting through the debris with shovels to see if anything else can be salvaged. this fire started about 4:30 yesterday afternoon and quickly traveled up the hills here in east san jose. it burned 150 acres. the fire is out but firefighters only have a fire alarm out about 50% of the burn area. there are still things in it smoldering so today they wanted to extend that containment line to 100%. given all the smoke here, they only lost one house. the man across the street was stunned the fire didn't spread to his home, too, given he was only 150 feet from this home. >> i'm amazed that nobody was hurt, and two, that it skipped our house. >> reporter: how do you wrap your min

>> reporter: well, good morning to you, sam and kris. the most recent construction accident here at facebook's menlo park campus involved a construction worker. as you can see in these photos released you can see that he was working on the fourth floor, the roof of facebook's 21 building when, according to firefighters, a piece of steel or decking became dislodged. the worker lost his footing and fell about 10 to 15 feet. fortunately he was wearing safety rigging which prevented him are from hitting the floor below but was still hurt by the quick stop and had to be taken to the hospital. the fire department tells us this worker's name is menlo quint who lives in menlo park. in late april two other workers fell are from the facebook building 21 construction site. in that accident they were harnessed to a beam that was 42 feet up in the air that failed and fell about 20 feet. again, while both work eers wer injured, their safety equipment stopped them from actually hitting the ground. reporting live, bob redell, "today in the bay." >>> bob

the president formed this commission headed by the vice president but practically being run by kris kobach, the secretary of state in kansas. it's state-based secretaries of state who run elections. part of what they're looking is the degree of irregularity in the voting that occurred in november 2016, in the current voter rolls. the president has alleged there was widespread voter fraud. there is no evidence to back that up. he of course lost the popular vote and won the electoral college. and so this is perhaps his way of trying to find out was there some sort of a spike that benefitted hillary clinton that was improper. no evidence of that. but the commission is looking at the situation. the problem is states, more than two dozen so far, say they won't turn over their voter registration rolls. and people who do sign up to vote give their name and address and social security number, sometimes their party affiliation is also requested. private information. but it is publicly available. but states are saying no, they don't want to give the federal government that, it should be handled by t

good morning, pete. >> reporter: good morning to you, kris and sam. a safety alert for those b.a.r.t. riders watching at home right now before you head out the door. as you mentioned there was yet another attack happening overnight. this one up the tracks here at the bay fair station in san leandro. here is the information we're getting in this morning according to b.a.r.t. police. the incident was someone being assaulted by three to four men on a train who ended up stealing his iphone and laptop. we're being told by police the victim was taken to the hospital for facial cuts and swelling. that he may remember the flash mob attack that happened back in april at the oakland coliseum b.a.r.t. station that put the safety issue in the spotlight for b.a.r.t. and now we're getting these new numbers from the agency which indicates certain crimes are on the rise. sexual assaults nearly doubling from this year -- from this year compared to last year. you have a reported seven rapes in 2017 and four in 2016. with the recent rash of crimes, the number of robberi

here's transportation correspondent kris van cleave. >> set to evacuate. >> reporter: first responders worked quickly sunday afternoon spraying foam to douse the flames after an engine caught fire on this crj700 regional jet. >> 5869, we're observing flames from here. >> reporter: it happened just after the plane landed at denver international airport around 2:15 after taking off from aspen, colorado, about a half hour earlier. >> all fire is extinguished. and start search and rescue efforts inside the aircraft. >> looking at the pictures, i saw some fuel dripping at the bottom of the engine, that looks like it will be some sort of a ruptured fuel line. >> reporter: flight 5869 was a united express flight operated by sky west airlines with 59 passengers and four crew members on board. they used stairs to evacuate. this aircraft is not equipped with emergency slides. no one was hurt. in a statement, sky west said the plane experienced engine issues. the faa says the plane reported a tire on fire which then spread to the engine kowling. the plane has been taken out of service while the f

kris van cleave reports this comes after an ongoing cbs news investigation and word that the number of injuries related to carbon monoxide leaks is much higher than previously thought. >> reporter: this 2016 henderson, louisiana, police explorer was badly damaged in a crash after officers say its driver passed out from carbon monoxide poisoning in april. >> she was treated at the hospital. we had requested testing for carbon monoxide and her levels came out near lethal. >> reporter: that officer sued ford. many more owners of explorers years 2011 through 2017 are reporting carbon monoxide appears to be seeping into their vehicle. the national highway traffic safety administration now says more than 2700 complaints have been lodged against the automaker and 41 people have reported injuries. like this police officer in california brian mcdowell who hit a tree in 2015 after passing out at the wheel just like that or zachary lahood whose dashcam was rolling as he called for help. lahood was the first of 18 austin police officers to be treated for carbon monoxide exposure. but it's not just
