kris. i mean, we're seeing debris flying. we've seen the cars toppled over. very scary stuff. but did people get warning that there was the potential for this tornado? so there was a weather warning. in effect, it was not a tornado warning. it was a marine activity warning. the national weather service said th because of the t tornado warning that they issued in san francisco, which bob redell will talk about in just a moment, because that didn't quite materialize, they were hesitant to issue a proper tornado warning for santa cruz county for scotts valley, but that the advice with the marine activity warning would have been the same for people to take cover and get inside. so they felt like they did issue a warning. maybe it wasn't the warning that people were hoping they got and kris, i mean, we're watching that video of that dash cam, etc. and that sure looks like a funnel cloud to me. but you know, they have to go out and confirm that, yes, indeed, it was a tornado, right? right. and so

kris. all right. thank you. kari. it is day six of jury deliberations, and they are now underway in san francisco for the murder trial of nima momeni, the man accused of deadly stabbing of cash app founder bob lee. nbc bay area's ginger conejero saab is live at the courthouse. and ginger, there's a little something dferent about today. that's right. chris. well, you mentioned today is day six of jury deliberations. we've also extended past six weeks of this trial, actually, maybe even over seven weeks at this point. and today marks the end of hardship for the jurors, which means that today was the arbitrary date that was set for when these proceedings. this trial was expected to wrap up. now, we have been on close watch, as have the parties involved, including the attorneys on both sides who are currently inside the courtroom. as of last check, both defense attorney attorneys and two prosecutors have been called inside to answer a question from the jury. attorney sam sagen, who leads that defense team, told confirmed

kris. thank you. kari.pening today, oakland leaders take the first real steps in turning the page as they try to lay out the steps to replace recalled mayor sheng thao. today in the bay's bob redell is live this morning and bob the city they're going to put some information out for voters later today, correct? they are going to have a meeting at 10 a.m. at oakland city hall, where the city council president, nikki fortunato bass, along with other city leaders, will hold this meeting. it's a media briefing to outline the timeline for selecting someone to replace current mayor. sheng thao, who is recalled from office during the election. this past november by over 60% of voters. now, city leaders also plan to go over a report from the city attorney that details when mayor chow would be officially removed from office, as well as how an interim mayor would be selected. that's until a special election is held, which would most likely take place next april 15th. according to reporting by the mercury news. so they

good morning to you, marcus and kris.me of those lecturers fired by san francisco state, they're going to come together for a support session to try to help each other look for things like health insurance and of course, new jobs, which unfortunately is tough to do during the holidays. we spoke with one of those who was let go, adjunct lecturer sean connolly. he says he will soon lose the job he's had for 17 years in the humanities and comparative literature department at sf state. the university did not disclose how many lecturers have been let go, but connolly estimates it's more than 100. a university spokesperson says lecturer hiring is based on student enrollment and confirms some lecturers will not be rehired in spring, saying, quote, as enrollment has declined. unfortunately, lecturer faculty are being significantly impacted as there are fewer sections to teach, especially course sections which are populated by incoming freshmen. between fall of 2017 and fall of 2021. sf state saw a 10% decline in overall enrollmen

so kris, do we have any answers for that question? you know, that was the question that happened right away as we were covering this story yesterday, marcus and kyra, the answer from the san mateo county sheriff's office and the office of emergency services is that there was no problem with the sirens. they just weren't triggered. they just weren't sounded when the national weather service did send that tsunami warning shortly after the 7.0 earthquake yesterday at 1045, people got alerts on their phone to evacuate coastal areas like half moon bay, where we are this morning, the county office of emergency services sent their own secondary emergency alert to phones as well, but did not trigger the sirens. then, in some neighborhoods, people say they heard police officers on bullhorns going through the neighborhood yelling at them to evacuate. still, the director of emergency services says that not sounding the sirens was not a mistake. but for some residents, it didn't feel right. there was a second alert later. so i mean, and still no

kris interesting times.five animals are dead after testing positive for bird flu at a wildlife world zoo in arizona. among the five animals include a mountain lion and a cheetah. the zoo believes a wild bird flew into the zoo and spread the virus to six animals there. the zoo is now quarantining animals and heavily sanitizing the enclosures and performing regular tests on animals to prevent the spread. 25 workers also in close contact with those infected animals. they are also now being monitored by their county health department. they have stopped all interactive animal encounters in order to keep guests safe. it is 5.50 and now back here in the bay area, the san francisco zoo also temporarily closing its walk through aviaries as a precautionary measure because of that risk of bird flu. the zoo says it's not only monitoring birds here, but also looking out for ill birds to protect the safety of the zoo. well, today is a very important day for cathols in the bay area and worldwide in the south bay. parishion

today in the bay's kris sanchez joins us live from scotts valley with what's happening kris what's goingtely a shocker. well, i'll tell you, there's still a lot of talk about this twister. so unusual for santa cruz county. and the cleanup continues today as the tornado did make a wreck of things here. i'm at one of the shopping centers that was hardest hit, but it hit homes as well. it sounded like an earthquake. it was a big bang. boom. it sounded on this wall. and then the house shook and it sounded like an earthquake. i thought we were hit with an earthquake, but it wasn't. that's 86 year old carlene larue. the tornado tore off part of her roof on her mobile home. she found it a couple blocks away. now, during that ef1 tornado, tree branches and other debris fell on people outside, and at least one person in a car was pulled out and suffered critical injuries. two other people also went to the hospital, but they were treated and released. now, after the storm, people were shocked, but also in the dark because that twister took out power lines as well. we were worried about the busines

now, kris what you're talking about. we're talking about pacifica all the way down through half moon bay. folks are advised to get away from the coast. i think you said a mile away om the coast. and it looks like the traffic flow is going away from half moon bay on 92. as well as look at this, though, we're seeing folks coming down on highway one. they may be trying to get over to 92 to get over because we know they're not good. cut through over these hills. other folks closer to pacifica perhaps going up towards schaar park and to the south, perhaps through san gregorio and highway 84 can get you through those hills. so those folks are likely trying to get away from the area. we've had no reports of any problems on these inner coast areas, but i want to give you an idea, dwayne called from eureka. this is a good 200, almost 300 miles away from a lot of us who are watching this from the city. so from san francisco in
