nbc bay area's kris sanchez is live in sunnyvale with the story. good morning, kris. >> reporter: good morning to you, laura. the blue cube, as most people know it, as helped to guide the space shuttle program through our nation's program, but today a ceremony to formally close the doors forever. the closure is five years in the making. the base was slated for closure in 2005, as part of the military's base realignment effort. the operations of the 50-year-old station will be transferred to vandenberg air force base in santa barbara, so there is still work to be done. however, only 25 people who work here will be transferred there. the other 145 people or so will be out of a job. though the closing ceremony is scheduled for later this morning, a few folks will stay on to wrap things up because a complete shutdown of the station which is named for one of the astronauts on the space shuttle "challenger" disaster, who died in that disaster, it was named after that astronaut, ownzooka, the formal closing, everything won't be wrapped up and closed comple

nbc bay area's kris sanchez is live in san jose with why now and why the governor is going to sign that kris? >> reporter: good morning, brent. for about 70 years now dairy farmers and ranchers and growers have been exempt from paying overtime to workers unless they work more than ten hours. that is something that could change today. senators and farm worker advocates will try to hand deliver a bill to the governor as you mentioned. right now farm workers only get overtime after ten hours of work in a day or 60 hours in a week. the bill which passed the assembly and senate would entitle them to overtime like the rest of us after eight hours or a 40-hour work week. the united farm workers union says it is time to treat farm workers the same as we treat other workers in our state. farmers, though, say they can't afford this and some have said they will get around it by hiring additional workers at regular pay, thereby hurting the very people that the bill is meant to help. many growers say they will put the pressure on the governor to veto this bill although the governor has not made his
