nbc bay area's kris sanchez joining us from the scene. how many cars were involved, and why is it taking so long to clear the scene? >> reporter: right now it looks like there was only the one big rig involved in the crash. the reason for the sdla because this is a complicated situation. when the driver was going eastbound on 237 and lost control, hit the center divide, part of the vehicle was evecjec into the other lanes of traffic. you're talking about affecting both lanes of traffic, eastbound and westbound. the good news is if you look behind me, you see the traffic is flowing again in that westbound direction in all but one of the lanes. the last lane will be closed until 6:30 as will the lanes of traffic going in the eastbound direction. that's the hope for the chp to reopen lanes of traffic just around 6:30. prance as early as 6:15. what happened was the driver was driving eastbound when he lost control because of a tire that blew out. that's what witnesses told the chp. when he lost control, he hit the center divide, and the vehic

this is in the heart of the silicon valley bringing in kris sanchez who's been tracking the story. what exactly happened? seems like the lanes are wide open, at least going in one direction? >> reporter: aat least going in one direction is right. westbound lane are all completely open. we're just seeing the last of the clean-up from that big rig crash here on the lanes that were headed eastbound. these eastbound lanes is where that big rig driver was driving when witnesses say it looked like he had a blowout, lost control of the vehicle, crashed into the center divide, which then projected part of the vehicle into the other lanes of traffic going in the other direction. that really complicated the clean-up and putting out the fire, which also erupted as well. now, there was one person in the cab of that truck. though when investigators first arrived here, the chp couldn't tell whether or not there was another person inside because of the veracity of that fire. once they put it out, the coroner arrived on the scene and did confirm that the driver was the only person who died in this

i'm kris sanchez along with rob mayeda. still say a little cool this weekend. >> a little cool this weekend. folks are trying to sleepn and enjoy some of the cool weather. we had an earthquake, 3.3, two miles southeast of berkeley. we had a few people posting on our facebook page, not being able to get back to sleep after that. felt as far west as san bruno from one of our facebook posters this morning. you can see 3.3 in the east bay this morning. now, our temperatures, 50s and 60s outside. we've got a blanket of low clouds. mist again this morning, so no change from that cool pattern we saw during the workweek. you can see case in point. look at those southeast winds pushing low clouds toward sacramento this morning. we'll see the same pattern as yesterday. i think morgan hill may get close to 80 this afternoon. cool for your saturday. the seven-day, though, finally showing some changes. we do have temperatures starting to come on up. we'll see some 80s inland adds we get back to the workweek. >> thank you very much, rob.
