nbc pbay area's kris sanchez reports. >> reporter: this is the same group that organizes those foreclosure tours to get people inside neighborhoods to see the true impact of the foreclosure crisis. now this time they targeted the lunchtime hour, gathering trash and dumping it in the lobby of a bank, demanding it take responsibility. >> everybody, walk right in. >> reporter: a small but vocal protest as members of a.c.e., the alliance of community empowerment, stormed the wells fargo branch in san jose to dump three bags of trash they say they collected from one of the bank's foreclosed properties. that home is in this woman's neighborhood. >> we have enough already. banks need to start cleaning those empty properties -- their properties that belong to them. >> reporter: this home on sincebad avenue is in question. according to san jose's code enforcement, the city did issue a $1,000 citation for blight just friday. however, the citation was issued to bank of america. still, the a.c.e. organizers say their goal is to hold all banks responsible for the properties they own, and that is the la

nbc bay area's kris sanchez joining us from the scene. how many cars were involved, and why is it taking so long to clear the scene? >> reporter: right now it looks like there was only the one big rig involved in the crash. the reason for the sdla because this is a complicated situation. when the driver was going eastbound on 237 and lost control, hit the center divide, part of the vehicle was evecjec into the other lanes of traffic. you're talking about affecting both lanes of traffic, eastbound and westbound. the good news is if you look behind me, you see the traffic is flowing again in that westbound direction in all but one of the lanes. the last lane will be closed until 6:30 as will the lanes of traffic going in the eastbound direction. that's the hope for the chp to reopen lanes of traffic just around 6:30. prance as early as 6:15. what happened was the driver was driving eastbound when he lost control because of a tire that blew out. that's what witnesses told the chp. when he lost control, he hit the center divide, and the vehic

nbc bay area's kris sanchez shows us what's next now that one chance at normalcy was dashed when the diabetes society abruptly canceled the camp with no explanation and no refunds. >> i like sleeping over and being in it likelike a cabin an there and hang out there. >> reporter: 11-year-old tia got to go to sleep-away camp but not the one she was supposed to. the diabetes society canceled their camps. >> it was the worst for it to get canceled because there was so many people that i knew that were going this year. >> reporter: for tia, sleep-away camp are a chance to be with friends who won't ask about the pump site she has to change. because of her diabetes and her age, a regular sleep-away camp really isn't an option. >> to send them off with a sleep-away camp p where you don't have contact with them, you don't know what they'll eat, no one to monitor their blood sugars and if they're safe can be very dangerous. >> reporter: the agency is now working with a law group on what's next, it's closed. molly underwood was the camp director. she's now out of a job. >> i just found out abou

kris sanchez has more on that. >> reporter: california gets a tenth of the federal pie, when the cuts are decided we will definitely feel them here in the golden state. let's start with the numbers, california spends about $208.5 billion a year. 79 billion of which is federal money, that's nearly 40% of the state budget. the funds help pay for public transportation. and for transportation projects like the doyle drive retrofit. federal funds also feed school children. federal dollars also help support higher education. californians also get federal dollars through social security, medicare and medicaid and unemployment benefits. earlier this week, the california treasurer said the state secured a 5$5.4 billion bridge loan. if that happens, the government's costs of rising will rise sharply. you'll likely pay more if you have a mortgage or home loans. we don't know how much money the state is going to lose until a deal is reached. even when that happens it's going to feel less like a trickle down and more like a flood. >>> a commercial flight that originated in new york crashed and bro

kris sanchez, nbc bay area news. >> speaking of the 4th if you're downing hot dogs like it's your job this weekend. consider yourself in good company. joey chestnut will try once again to defend his title in new york. every july 4th, competitors eat as many dogs as they can in ten minutes. this year, there's something new. separate categories for men and women. 27-year-old chestnut set the world record by eating 68 hot dogs in 10 minutes in 2009. he's held the title for four years. he practiced with about 40 hot dogs thursday night. after that, he won't eat much until the day. the real challenge is in the recovery. >> i feel lethargic for about a day and a half. i drink water and don't eat very much. my body azapts. >> joey also told us when he's in between competitions, he mostly eats chicken and salads. nick o'kelly is here. i've had the honor to work on independence day the last few years, it's on tv, it's in the newsroom, i try to watch it, and i have to turn away. >> i know, all of a sudden, a hot dog doesn't sound good. how about a burger? burgers sound good? >> yeah. >> prepare

this is in the heart of the silicon valley bringing in kris sanchez who's been tracking the story. what exactly happened? seems like the lanes are wide open, at least going in one direction? >> reporter: aat least going in one direction is right. westbound lane are all completely open. we're just seeing the last of the clean-up from that big rig crash here on the lanes that were headed eastbound. these eastbound lanes is where that big rig driver was driving when witnesses say it looked like he had a blowout, lost control of the vehicle, crashed into the center divide, which then projected part of the vehicle into the other lanes of traffic going in the other direction. that really complicated the clean-up and putting out the fire, which also erupted as well. now, there was one person in the cab of that truck. though when investigators first arrived here, the chp couldn't tell whether or not there was another person inside because of the veracity of that fire. once they put it out, the coroner arrived on the scene and did confirm that the driver was the only person who died in this

kris sanchez joins us from san jose. do they have any idea where he might be? >> reporter: they do have an idea of where he might be, and they have actually changed the status of this from missing at risk to just missing. in the last hour the san jose police spokesman told me detectives looked at surveillance video from the greyhound bus station, about a mile from the family's home, and they think that they saw jesus alone as he bought a ticket and boarded a greyhound bus for southern california. that's the good news. of course, the bad news is his frantic family still wants him to be back at home. police say that they don't suspect foul play. but his dad says that they haven't seen him since midnight last night. they say that they woke up this morning around 6:30 in the morning, and jesus was gone. the door was unlocked. the family says he has never run away from home before. they had no reason to believe that he ever would. and they don't think that he would ever go far from home without his mother. but police say that because of his age and his mental capaci
