nbc bay area kris sanchez joins us from the summit on highway 17 with more on what kept the chp most busy today. kris? >> reporter: hi there, janelle. luckily for me, no need for an umbrella right now. but we certainly got rain earlier. we saw fog and lots of high winds. the chp was out in force. they don't have specific numbers for us just yet, but we can tell you they were going from call to call. frustration on highway 17 north of the summit as traffic backed up for miles after the driver of a white cargo van spun out and blocked half of the highway. oak stowell of los gatos saw that. >> we were getting by fine until this semitruck came by and the van and the wall. >> reporter: the crash happened along highway 17's infamous s-curve. the road is so tight that the chp officer had to push the van with his patrol car because not even a tow truck could make it through. at the summit we found a business manager named, no joke, joe weatherman. >> the chp sitting up here are never sit hearing for more than four minutes because this road makes people crazy. they drive too fast. they don't p

nbc bay area's kris sanchez joins us from san jose this evening. kris, why not return to the bargaining table? what is the problem here? >> reporter: hi there, raj. hopefully you can hear me over the chanting. this is a very serious group about getting their message out. we estimate as many as 400 teachers and supporters turned out today to make their point to the district that they need to return to the bargaining table. they are trying to get their community also to put the pressure on the district. the teachers march carrying signs, getting honks and hollers of support along the way. after the last contract negotiating session in october, the district asked the public employer relations board to declare an impasse, setting the ball in motion for a mediator to help decide the next contract with the district. the district said it cannot afford a 1% pay raise for teachers, and can no longer afford to pick up 100% of the benefits for teachers and their dependents. the teachers say the district has about $20 million in reserve, and that the district c

let's bring in kris sanchez who joins us in daly city. good evening, kris. >> reporter: hi there, raj. it was about this dark this morning when the mud started flowing down this street in this daly city neighborhood so residents really didn't know what they were going to see once the sun rose, but what a sight it was, they woke up after an 8-inch city water main break broke sending a torrent of 40,000 plus gallons of water down the hillside. it picked up mud, it picked up debris and it picked up steam along the way. residents said it sounded like a storm but when they looked out the window, it was too dark to know what it was. then came the knocks at doors, warning people to get out. >> i saw the police out here and about 5:00 they were here and i could see the water coming down and the police said you guys better evacuate. the water is coming down fast. >> now, that resident evacuated, but he and the others have been able to return home tonight. this isn't the first time this has happened here. the resident says he bought his home in 1980

kris sanchez went out in search of those turkeys today. they're always pecking at my car at my house. what is the solution for that, kris? >> reporter: you never find them exactly when you need them. we went looking for them today. it's like they gnaw something was going on tomorrow, right? we wanted to know whether the turkeys on our front paths, jogging trails are legal to hunt. the answer is yes. you just have to know where. wild turkeys by the dozen, they must feel the heat of thanksgiving approaching because while they were here they were nowhere to be seen at their other haunts like this neighborhood along the foothills or this business park along highway 101 south. but we know they like bay area neighborhoods like this one in martinez we got on video in october. >> they tend to adapt pretty easily to the urban areas. >> reporter: ryan mccoy checking in on hunters at the marina. he says it is also open season on wild turkeys through december 9. >> wild turkey hunting is fairly common in the bay area. there's not a whole lot of public

i'm kris sanchez. another stormy night across the bay area. we're keeping a close eye on that fragile hillside in daly city. crews were making sure that storm drains didn't back up with mud or any other kind of debris. and bales of hay line the area. on tuesday you may recall the road was a river of mud after water main broke sending tens of thousands of gallons of water into the neighborhood. a dozen cars were buried up to their hubs in mud. let's check in with meteorologist rob mayeda. residents in that neighborhood are feeling very wary. i think it's safe to say the danger has passed, do you think? >> last night we had a significant rainfall around the bay area. most of it fell in three to four hour's time. san francisco over a third of an inch of rain. san jose, about a half inch of rain. hayward about close to a third. a few other locations more than a half inch of rain. uniform event for most of the bay area picking up a third to about a half inch of rain which explains the spinouts overnight as rain continued to fall. the showers have s
