. >> kris sanchez right by the 101/680 interchange. what can you tell us? >> reporter: all i can tell you the officers are gone here from the scene. you can see skid marks on story road. that's where a power pole was sheared right off its base. the power pole is in the parking lot where the car careened and ended up. we are were able to confirm three people were taken into custody but only after they were treated by medical personnel on the scene. the sheriff's department tells us deputies were pursuing a driver on story road, but they have not yet told us where that chase started nor why. our crew got here before 2:00 this morning. for perspective this is story road at roberts, about a football field away to the hole low park and zoo. the parking lot where we are is one of the farther parking lots for a super walmart store here on story. so very busy during the daytime hours but not the so busy in the 2:00 hour when we believe this crash happened. we are going to work the phones against. kris sanchez, "today in the bay." >>> big news for the silicon valley

in san carlos, kris sanchez, today in the bay. >> thanks so much, kris. >> 6:33. new this morning, antioch police investigating a deadly stabbing. happened a little after 8:00 last night on west 19th street near antioch high school. investigators say a man was stabbed in the torso and died from his injuries. this is antioch's fiveting homicide of the year. >> cancer patient authorities say was out for revenge is under arrest and facing attempted murder charges. investigators say 58-year-old yu chen was caught before he could carry out a plan where he wanted to kill his bay area based doctors. officers arrested him last week in san jose as he was driving from his home in the central valley. the plot unraveled when vidahlia police say they fount notes at the suspect's house telling his family he planned to kill the doctors who he blamed for his deteriorating health. >> we feel pretty confident of what his intent was and if we hadn't been able to in a sort of time sensitive way coordinate our efforts that we would be investigating at least one homicide if not multipl

. >> chris sanchez joins us live with the reason why. room, kris. >> reporter: good morning. the trees are very thirsty and that means they're very heavy. our producer lindsay nearly blocked in the parking lot by a fallen branch and a branch across a car and fortunately no one was injured but the car was pretty banged up and if someone was on the sidewalk along the same time it could have been a different story. we did talk with a certified arborist saying when it's really hot as it's been the trees pull in as much water as they can and then they can't release it quickly enough and makes the branches heavy and can come down. there's signs of tree trouble. dead trees are particularly susceptible to falling. broken branches to come down unexpectantly. look for signs of diseases like mushrooms or cork and look for any leaning of more than 10 degrees. that means there could be trouble underground. i'll post more information about tree safety from the u.s. forest service on my facebook page so you can check that, as well. but in this heat we can expect to see more scenes like this

kris sanchez live in redwood city with a community meeting happening later today to discuss traffic concerns in that area. we know it quite well, kris. >> yeah, if you want a lively conversation, you know all you have to do is bring up traffic, and there's certainly no shortage of traffic on the highway 101 corridor through the peninsula. tonight, folks here in redwood city will have a chance to talk about traffic with people who actually can affect change. there is a council meeting, not a council meeting, rather a public meeting here tonight in redwood city. tonight, caltrans and city leaders want to talk to the community about their ideas to ease congestion along 101. there are four main proposals at this point. one would create a toll lane, sort of an express lane like the one on 580 through livermore. that would include a toll for solo drivers as well. another option would be to extend the carpool lane from sfo south to santa clara county. the line there. also increasing carpools to three or more people instead of just two. the meeting is tonight at 6:30 here at the redwood city council

kris sanchez joins us live from fremont this morning with the m impact this could certainly have on your wallet. good morning, kris. >> reporter: good morning, laura. b.a.r.t. ride may not be feeling all warm and fuzzy about the changes coming down the pike but using a paper ticket is not the only way you're going to pay more. there are other ways as well and this was a vote that passed by the b.a.r.t. board. leadership had to come up with a budget to close the deficit of $31 million that you mentioned. also dealing at the same time with 3% fewer riders paying into the kiddie. the good news while you'll be paying 2.7% more ba.a.r.t. promises your ride about get better as two-thirds of the capital budget will be spent on the system itself -- new cars, improving stations, making the system more reliable and clean. now the bad news is that it will cost you. starting in january riders will pay 2.7% fare increase and a 50 cent charge to use a paper ticket instead of a clipper card. if you don't want to pay that get the clipper card. the youth discount is cut to 50% which is less than it is no
