as kris sanchez reported earlier, how much is enough or too much water? here's a basic hydration formula for kids. divide their weight by two, that's the number of ounces they should drink per day. if you're someone who works outside or an athlete, kids 9 to 1 need three to eight ounces every 20 minutes. if you as an adult work outside, the cdc recommends you drink eight ounces of water every 15 to 20 minutes. the you can't get a break, up that and make sure you're drinking 24 to 32 ounces per hour. water is a good thing, but you can have too much water. don't more than 48 ounces at a time. you could dilute the sodium in your blood and you could end up in the hospital or at your doctor's. limit sports drinks outside or vigorous activity or when you're sweating a lot because they have a lot of sugar. they'll give you a quick fix but you don't want that much sugar. avoid caffeine and alcohol because they do dehydrate you, which is not a good thing when you're sweating out here in 80 death grow temperatures. live in livermore, bob redell, nbc bay area news.

nbc bay area's kris sanchez has more on the warning from algae to rattlesnakes. kris? >> the weather has been hot, and when it is hot, algae blooms and rattlesnakes. don't let that stop you from going outside, though. just follow this advice from east bay park. avoid hiking alone, and as you are out and about, stay on the trail and scan the ground ahead of you. keep your kids close and keep your dog on a leash. if you see a snake on the trail, just leave it alone and move away slowly. if a rattlesnake does bite, you will know it because of the sound and you will also feel an intense burning. it will be very painful. in that case, the advice is to stay calm, call 911, and keep that bite lower than your heart. experts say don't waste your time on tournaments or trying to suck out the venom like you might have learned in girl scouts or boy scouts. if you are bitten by another kind of snake, wash with soap and water and seek medical attention. if you were hoping to beat the heat, the niles swim area at fremont's horseshoe lake is closed because of blue-green algae in bloom

. >> i'm kris sanchez. laura garcia is off. more on that court hearing in a few moments. first breaking news out of hayward where officials say hackers breached the city of hayward's computer system. we are told they first notice that cybersecurity threat sunday morning when there was an intrusion on the computer system. the city quickly shut down the public website and the online portal. important to know, city emergency services like 911 are still operating. city leaders wrote in a press release that there is no evidence that people's personal information was stolen. however, if the hackers hacked personal data, the city says they will contact the individual people. you might remember that something like this happened in the bay area before back in february when hackers launched a ransomware attack on the city of oakland and began leaking city employees' personal information online. that system was not back up and running until two months later. our reporter is tracking this breaking story and will have more in the afternoon newscast. >>> new at 11:00 for you, the man a

i'm kris sanchez for laura garcia. >> i'm marcus washington. officials say illegal fireworks are to blame in two house fires in the east bay. nbc's bob redell live from the scene in antioch. i understand you spoke with one of the homeowners there. what did they have to say about this? >> reporter: well, the man who lives at this small home behind me here in antioch at the corner of west 8th and d streets tells us he heard all sorts of illegal fireworks going off last night, and he believes one landed on his 100-year-old detached garage causing it to ignite. this is video from just after 3:00 this morning. sadly, you can see the garage fire extended to the main house where it destroyed the man's music room and his wife's office. it also destroyed two of his cars including an original classic, a 1950 chevy fleet line. the fire also severely damaged the next-door neighbor's house. now paul thatcher, the man in the house with the garage, he tells us that he and his wife were asleep at the time. he credits his two dogs, you can see there, for barkin

nbc bay area's kris sanchez has a new response from the woman at the center of this debate, alameda county district pamela price. >> i would start by saying the 8-year-old boy shot on friday remains in grave condition. he was caught in the cross fire of a shooting on eastbound 580 on oakland and is at the hospital. chp shut down the freeway to investigate about six hours. alameda county district attorney pamela price is facing criticism for her prosecution in prior freeway shootings incluing that of jasper wu on your screen. he's the little toddler who was killed by a stray bullet while in his car seat in his mother's car. price was criticized for not pursuing life without parole against the two men charged with his murder. but d.a. price told nbc bay area that her prosecution is dependent on the proof that the chp can provide to prove the case. >> we know that when we get an opportunity to hold someone accountable, that we are doing that, we're doing it in the jasper wu case, doing it in the case out of union city. we are doing that. freeway shootings are not okay. shooting anyone in midf

i'm kris sanchez. laura garcia is off. >> i'm marcus washington. elizabeth holmes' 11-year prison sentence reduced by two years for good behavior. >> bob redell joins us in studio. some of us were surprised to hear that her sentence was cut so soon after she went to prison. but you're saying it's not that surprising. >> we spoke to a legal expert who tells us elizabeth holmes is not being treated any differently than other federal prisoners convicted of nonviolent crimes. at the bureau of prisons, they offer a 15% reduction in prison sentences early on to encourage good behavior among its inmate population. this is a screen grab from the bureau of prisons website that now shows her release date as december 29th of 2032 instead of 2034, which means her sentence has been reduced to around nine years. the bureau of prisons would not comment specifically about holmes' sentence. they say out of respect for her privacy, safety, and security. but they say that generally speaking inmates can have their sentences reduced for good conduct and for completing

here is kris sanchez with more tips. >> i have a personal interest in this. one of my daughters is going to a swim meet this weekend. we know it will be hot. i did find a basic hydration formula for all children. if you take their weight in pounds and divide that by two, you will get the number of ounces they should be drinking in a day, any day. of course, now that it's hot, they need more than that, especially if they spent time outside. or if your children are athletes. kids 9 to 12 who are working out outside need three to eight ounces every 20 minutes. your teenage athletes near 34 to 50 ounce of water per hour. we do have a lot of friends and colleagues who work outside from cal trans, landscapers, roofers. the cdc recommends if you are among them, you need to drink eight ounces of water every 15 to 20 minutes. if you can't take all of those water breaks, make sure you drink 24 to 32 ounces per hour. some hydration basics to remember. don't drink more than 48 ounces of water at a time or you could dilute the sodium in you're blood and that could create
