kris sanchez nbc bay area news thank you, chris.orts across the globe. this is video of united airlines this morning at sfo. you could see lines backed up. it systems went down at major hubs at airports around the country. it caused the faa to stop air traffic and for hours, passengers couldn't find updated flight information on airport screens. technicians, though, have updated the software. the screens are back up and running, and a spokesperson for sfo, who says airlines they're still continuing to work out the kinks. we are hearing that their check in systems, their ticketing systems, their flight dispatch systems are back on track. but still there is some slow processing that we're seeing at airline ticket counters. so we do expect some residual impact in the form of delays and cancellations. today, it's a ripple effect. nearly 1400 flights have been delayed and canceled across the u.s. since last night. by the way, delta and american airlines told us they're offering vouchers to passengers impacted by that outage. get ready fo

and i'm kris sanchez. laura garcia is off. we want to get right to mike inouye because there's something happening in the east bay that might. it's been continuing. northbound 680 has been closed ever since this double big rig crash happened just north of livorna road. i'm kind of zoomed in, but if you know the area heading up into walnut creek out of alamo, you know this stretch livorno road is where folks are forced off the freeway and have to get over here. many are taking danville boulevard. that's why we've seen these slow sensors. we're crawling. look at that. speeds below or at ten miles per hour traveling north. now, some of that traffic is lightened up because there's another crash in the backup traveling north at stone valley road. crash that i have very little detail about, but it is slowing more traffic. folks are also getting off of stone valley, adding to danville boulevard as well to avoid the area. if you're traveling north, you can take 580 in through castro valley. then back up, then to the warren freeway and

i'm marcus washington and i'm kris sanchez. laura garcia is off. now we know that it was a long night for firefighters. and we have new video this midday of one of the fires that nearly cost a family their home. firefighters had to scramble to put it out as that fire spread into a tree that was dangerously close to a home in the early, early morning hours. that's more to talk about this. we want to go to ginger conejero saab. she is live for us. there a close call. this is where firefighters fireworks were to blame. there ginger. now we do not know that for sure. from investigators marcus and kris, but everyone in this neighborhood, or at least the neighbors that we've spoken to this morning, all seem to agree that it was caused by fireworks because they say that it was nonstop yesterday, down in the parking lot below. now the fire is out here in antioch this morning, but take a look at what it left behind. you can see the hill that we're standing on. it's all burned. there is a tree or what was a tree that is all burned. and then there's that home

i'm laura garcia and i'm kris sanchez. i'm here for marcus washington. we're going to get to that excessive heat warning in just a moment. but first we're following breaking news on a pretty disturbing story out of san francisco. san francisco police arrested a man for allegedly pushing a senior citizen in front of a bart train , killing her. police say this happened late last night at the powell street station in san francisco. we have file video of that station. travis belmont, also known as hok tang, pushed a 74 year-old woman as the train approached. she was taken to the hospital and later died. the medical examiner is identifying the victim as corazon dandan of san mateo county. police say belmont is a transient. he was shortly arrested at the station after the incident. this is the first homicide on the bart system so far. this year. it's unclear what led up to the incident. we'll continue to follow that for you through the day as well. but back to the soaring temperatures across the bay area. that excessive heat warning just went into effect at th

i'm marcus washington and i'm kris sanchez. i'm in for laura garcia. so here's what's new in the investigation into the attempt on former president trump's life. while they are still so many unanswered questions about why that gunman targeted trump at that rally in pennsylvania on saturday, we can tell you that the fbi interviewed 100 law enforcement agents, rally goers and witnesses. so far, some of those attendees say they noticed 20 year old thomas crooks pacing and behaving strangely near the rally's metal detectors. they alerted local police, who began pursuing crooks on foot. a u.s. official says. during the pursuit, the officers told the secret service they were looking for suspicious person in the area. nbc news is also learning two local officers approached crooks before he opened fire, but could not stop him. we interviewed a criminal justice professor and former police chief tommy thompson this morning on today in the bay, and we asked him about that relationship that interlap between the secret service and the local authorities ahead of eve

thanks so much for joining us on this thursday midday i'm kris sanchez. laura garcia is off and i'm marcus washington. we start this hour with breaking news out of butte county. this is where that fast moving park fire is forcing hundreds of people from their homes. now, we do know that some of those families, they won't have much to return to. and this is the reason why this overnight video of that explosion, likely involving a propane tank and an already engulfed home. this does not look like the only structure destroyed in that neighborhood, which is about five miles north of chico. the park fire only started around 3:00 yesterday afternoon, and by 730 this morning, some 16 hours later, more than 45,000 acres of burned that fire. only 3% contained at this hour. now we do know evacuation orders are in effect for some communities there, including richardson springs, forest ranch and cohasset. adding to that trauma, it's just 16 miles from the town of paradise. this was the town decimated by a fire back in 2018. meanwhile this is a time lapse video of whe

today in the bay's kris sanchez joins us and kris city leaders are really putting their foot down on this one. so san francisco supervisors took pretty swift action. sometimes they go back and forth between committee and different readings, but this time they banned some ai rental software. the first time they discussed it, the software in question is by realpage and yardi. they compile landlord data to determine how high they can set a units rent, or perhaps not rent it at all. according to the information that the supervisors had to consider before the meeting. the use of that software, increased rent vacancy, and even eviction rates. and the companies have faced lawsuits in other communities across the country. now while realpage claims that not enough landlords use the software in san francisco to contribute to that alleged collusion, supervisor aaron peskin disagreed, stating at the board meeting, quote, banning algorithmic price gouging is pro-housing policy. let's build housing for renters, not for real estate investors. now, to put this into context, earlier this year, u.s. d
